So, I got the extended warranty when I bought my '09 Cabrio from CarMax. Had problems with starting & got it towed to my local Mercedes shop. (WHAT WAS I THINKING?!?!) Well, I was thinking the warranty would completely cover repairs & I'd pay the $50 deductible.
Anyway, 2 weeks later! Cost for MB to replace the full pump is $1,818.58 which includes $1,080 for labor! AND my warranty approved $1,300 !!!!
Hubby says pay it & we'll find a shop to take it to next time. (He could do the work himself; he has access to a shop at work & mechanics to help; but it wouldn't be covered by the warranty.)

Long story short; Mercedes shop is EXPENSIVE!!

I'd love to hear others' experiences with fuel pumps. And also, how do I find a GOOD shop that won't charge me an arm & a leg??

What CarMax sold you was a service contract, not a warranty. There are probably coverage limits for everything the contract will pay for...

Look around for a local shop that does Mercedes work and has a Mercedes STAR computer. Check their reviews on Google or Yelp! and see if anyone you know has dealt with them. Most likely they will still charge over $100 an hour. :)

My 2008 smart passion had a fuel pump quit. The car was still with the MB warranty. Stealership
rented me a toyota to drive while mine was repaired. In a 451 smart, the fuel pump is INSIDE the
fuel tank. Requires dropping the belly pan, and the gas tank. The last time I checked most of the
MB stealerships were charging $150. to $200. per hour labor. The bill to MB warranty for my car
was $1300. back in 2010.......................

Uggh! I'm DONE with Mercedes working on my Smart cars! My poor little car has been there THREE Weeks to get the fuel pump replaced. Then, yesterday, I get a message; "On the test drive the check engine light came on & we found that one of your cylinders was misfiring. We recommend replacing all three because of age." For a cost of $441!! That's nearly $150 per spark plug! Naaah! My husband can do that at his work.
What is the recommendation for spark plug replacement, anyway? Yes, the car is 13 years old, but it's first 10 years it had less than 9k. We bought it 3 years ago this month & have added less than 15,000 miles.

If the car only has 9K miles, It wouldn’t really need new spark plugs. New spark replacement,
is at 30K miles, the at 60K.

I’m not sure where your located at. We been using Christian Brothers automotive. They are
pretty much nation wide. Fair honest prices. They can perform service on all brands of cars.
