A forum member sent me this info which I found very interesting. As I mentioned in my thread about replacing the 12v battery (see sticky above), the OE battery is generally the most convenient battery to use as a replacement even though it may cost a buck or two extra. BTW - cost for the battery is $138. MSRP is $182.

I bought the battery directly from Mercedes Benz’s own corporate parts website: Genuine OEM Mercedes-Benz Parts | Mercedes-Benz USA Parts

Funnily enough, it was the cheapest price I could find anywhere. The catch is that they won’t ship it because it’s a hazardous material (they do ship other parts though), so you have to arrange to pick it up at a dealership nearest you. I’m not sure all dealerships participate in the corporate parts website program, but you can see which ones do by entering your zip in the preferred dealers section.

At the very least, next time you need a battery, you can ask the dealership you bought from last time to match the corporate parts website price. I’m pretty sure they will oblige.

Wow! $12,600 for me! But I'm getting a "Genuine OEM Mercedes Benz Parts" battery, installed, with 2 year warranty.

So there, [sarcasm mode OFF].

ED3 is effectively an orphaned car dependent on scraps from salvage operations, get used to it, but you can call it a collector car if you like. 8^)

Yeah, the webpage from Ct M/B of Fairfield (CT):

BUT it is for a 453-982-00-08 battery, which I believe is for the ICE smarts. Even though it has it listed as:

• 453-982-00-08
• Other Names:Starter Battery
• Description: Conventional, with electric drive. (italics mine)

But my battery in my 2017 ED/EQ smart is:
12V - L2 EFB 60aH 510A
Enhanced Flooded Battery special technology
DC A 453-982-02-00

OK I just called the M/B parts dept. The online catalog listing p/n 453 982-00-08 as being for ED/EQ smarts is WRONG,
That battery listed is, in fact, for the 453 ICE smarts only. These online catalogs are to be questioned.

According to the parts dept guy, if I were to buy the correct (p/n 453-982-02-00) battery from M/B of Fairfield (CT),
It would cost $194.84 (tax included). (Whoops, $102.99 is NOT for me!)

Thanks for clarifying Jeb. I should have stated in my initial post that I was talking about the battery for the 2013 - 2016 electrics. The $137.99 price is the base price. Depending on where you pick it up, there maybe be sales tax and possibly a small shipping charge of under $5. Seems like all dealerships don't participate in that corporate website for some reason.

Yup but all the parts guy did was ask for the last 8 digits of my vin, then read me the battery I needed. So his battery for the ED (453-982-02-00) was the online battery for the gas smart, and the online ED (453-982-00-08) was for what he sold for gas smarts. At least the online site for 451's, either gas or ED is the same battery (the 451-982-00-08). When I bought my car, carfax history showed the dealer (a NJ dealer) replaced the battery. I'm wondering if they put the wrong one in. Or maybe it just doesn't matter. A clue would be what other people with 453's have., in both gas and ED smarts.

I put in a query on the online catalog webpage and finally got a reply:
"

According to our parts catalog, battery P/N 453-982-00-08 is no longer a valid number. In reference to our catalog P/N 453-982-02-00 is the only battery the vehicle takes based on your VIN. If you have any other questions please feel free to contact our parts department. Thank you.

Update 11/17/2021
Installed the duralast platinum AGM today, it was a snug fit had to bend the tab on the hold down bracket with a hammer. Changed it because when I unlocked the door the tail lights flashed like 9 times and when I checked the 12v battery voltage it was always saying 14v like the car was always trying to charge it. Tested it out of the car it had Zero State of Health even though fully charged. Took a while to figure out I have to select "EN" 340 on the battery tester to get a proper test.
