Does anyone else have bad reception inside their smart car? I am in a 2011 fortwo passion with the glass roof. I have been noticing that my iphone overheats when using google maps, to the point where iphone has temperature warning. Does anyone else run into this issue? I am wondering if it is an issue with my iphone7 or if the smart car is somehow weakening the signal and if i need a new antenna.

I seriously doubt the smart is the cause. I have use iPhones since at least the 6s in smart cars. Phones do get hotter when using GOS but I’ve never had one give me a heat warning. Trying to remember if that was an issue with your 7 but just not certain.

iPhone”s, do generate heat, when in use. That completely normal. It would have nothing to do with the smart car. If you really that concern, run your phone a Apple Store. Go on line to the nearest Apple store, near you. Set up a appointment, at the genus bar.

One thing do not leave any Apple device, in direct sunlight. The phones, watches, with turn themselves off. Safe guard, Sitting on my deck, listening to music. My iPhone will overheat, if it’s in direct sunlight. It will overheat, and turn itself off. It will be safe to use again, once it cools off. My Apple Watch does the same thing.

Close, your sun shade on your car. Check you providers cellular strength.

It seems you're correlating reception to phone temperature. Your cellular reception has nothing to do with your phone overheating, neither does your car. But the sun and charging do have a huge impact on temperature.

Leaving your phone on the dashboard or anywhere else that gets a ton of direct sunlight can cause it to heat up enough to overheat. It's a problem I'll even have on a motorcycle in traffic. It gets even worse if you're charging, especially wireless charging, which is already a heat-generating lossy process.

Your smart can contribute to it through the panoramic roof, but it's not the problem. My recommendation? Put the phone into one of the storage cubbies or down low in a cup holder. :)

I’ve used the maps app on my iPhone in my smart multiple times and never had a issue with it(it’s even plugged into the radio and running carplay via usb when it’s doing it)
I use the cubby to the right of the steering wheel and never had a problem with it getting too hot.
Like others have said there has to be a issue with the phone or it’s in direct sunlight(which will make the phone get too hot then throttle itself and shut down if it gets too hot and overheeted(it will display a message just before it shuts down if it does)
