We had a really cold spell a couple of weeks ago and then I noticed part of the Dodge shorty antenna covering was missing. No idea if they are connected or what actually caused the covering to come off. Old and new antenna photo:

Two notes for anyone wanting to get an Avenger antenna:

1. The same antenna was used on many vehicles in the CJD product line, including vehicles like the Jeep Liberty. All of them have the same threading as a 451.

2. Make sure you get an antenna from a pre-FCA Avenger. The post-FCA Avenger antenna looks the same, however they have slightly thicker threading and by my testing will not fit a smart.

I have the Avenger antenna, but can't seem to unscrew the smarts antenna. I even tried gently using a pliers.
I couldn't get it to budge.

Once you get the original antenna off, be sure to lube the threads before installing the new one. I remove my Avenger antenna about once a month and apply a small bit of white grease to the threads. May be overkill, but I like to keep up on maintenance items.

Just checked eBay, price for OEM models are $15. I paid I think $5-$7 for mine (from eBay) back in 2013. I’m guessing the price increase is because even the newest cars to use this model of antenna are about 8 years old now. MOPAR is keeping them around for cars long out of production.

The post above is the wrong antenna.

see post #4 Smart Bob:
"I acquired the antennas that fit a 2007 Dodge Avenger. The later ones look similar but won't fit as indicated by Miss Mercedes. "

The stubby antenna you want is a pre 2010, Dodge Avenger, it can be found on Amazon for $25.00, supplied by Craven Speed.
Later years, for the same model Dodge Avenger, have a different thread.

Slight correction: You aren't looking for a first generation Dodge Avenger antenna, but an antenna from the pre-facelift model years (older than 2011).

When FCA facelifted the Avenger in 2011, they changed the threading on the antenna. It looks exactly the same, but the threading is bigger than the older antenna. Not sure why they did that. It probably even has the same part number too, so search by model year.

I got mine for $5 last year. eBay.
As Miss Mercedes points out - YMMV?

Appears that you are correct and the pre-2011 Avenger shorty is the proper fit?

I’m really surprise, there aren’t any other brands. That support the short antenna for the smart car. Drove by a new Jeep Cherokee. It had one.
Honda CRV, and Fit. Nissan crossovers, Kia’s, Chevy’s etc.

Has anyone ever try another brand?
