My 1009 Passion Coupe all of a sudden had a failure of the heater blower except on high. After some research, I removed the fan speed controller, located towards the front of the housing, just above the filter, and there is a small resistor looking item on the top connecting the tow outward connections. This is apparently a fuse. I simply crushed it, soldered it so the connection is good, and the fan now works on all speeds. I will try to purchase a fuse, and replace this, but figuring out the characteristics with Smart of America's attitude may prove to be difficult. I think it is a 5 amp thermal fuse.

Any help or suggestions?

Sounds more like the speed resistor for the fan. The more the resistance, the slower the speed of the fan. High speed is a straight 12v connection. All the other speeds go through the resistor at various points to get the correct speed.
