Got the Metra 99-8720B kit for my 2012 Smart car (the basic Smart single DIN radio).
The Metra kit is a single/double DIN kit, with optional storage cubby.
I can see 3 problem areas I could use some advice on:
1) I want to install an Eonon I have had in storage for years. While it is a single DIN, the Eonon has a screen that hangs down about 1/2", so I was considering putting this part BELOW the storage bin part-- opposite of what is intended. In this way, I think the radio face would not interfere with the storage cubby.
Has anyone tried this?
2) The Eonon single DIN is standard width (7"), however, it does not slide through the Metra fascia -- need about 1/4 inch wider.
I saw that some of you installers mention that you "made your units fit". Does this mean that you file down the sides of the Metra piece -- or will this Eonon unit simply not fit at all?
3) Last question: Besides the original Speaker harness and the Power harness plugs on the original Smart radio, there were two other plugs in the original Smart radio that I do not know how to handle. One was a small blue plug and the other was one that was midway in the back of the radio chassis, and I think it was orange? (I think it has 4 small pins grouped together inside it).
What are these for?
I guess it would help to have a wiring diagram for the radio (I did find the wiring diagrams someone has posted for the Power and Speaker harness plugs - thanks.
Appreciate any inputs.
