I purchased a used Smart for two 2015. When I bought it the guy told me it needed a new gear selector with the ignition in it. I can't remember what he called it now. Anyway, I bought one used for 150 dollars and installed it. It came with a key and didn't work. He had the ignition bypassed with a trigger button to start it. It will start with the trigger but will not move. I jacked up the car while started and the rear tires will begin to move but its not strong enough to move the car while on the ground. Also, if you step on the accelerator peddle it doesn't do anything. On the Dash It doesn't show P R N D at all but the wrench flashes. I need help Please!!!

You have what we refer to as the 3 bars of death. An easy fix, turn the ignition to the on position (but don't start the car, with your foot on the brakes, shift into each gear and wait until it stops clunking, about 15-20 seconds, then move to the next gear doing the same thing. After you go through them all, you put it in park and you should get the display back. It should work now, unless there is a problem with the shifter you installed. It may need to be matched with the car using a STARR computer. That would require a trip to the dealer, make sure you bring the keys you want to use and they should be able to set them up for you too.
