Sorry to burst your bubble, but it's just where they found space to put it. They tell you all about it in the manual. Since they don't provide a spare tire, they give you an inflator with a sealant canister that can possibly fix a flat tire. Won't help if you have a blowout, but it's better than nothing.

My car came without it. Since I knew nothing about smart cars at the time of buying it didn't search for it. The piece of foam that houses the kit is entirely missing.
If you bought your car used, the previous owner used it. took it out of the car. Didn’t bother buying a replacement new sealant canister. All smart cars, were equipped, with the pump, and sealant can.

I know the broker I bought from pulled the one from the car I bought, based on one of the photos, but only having the closure knobs, but no foot space cover when I got the car. I'm sure one was missing from another car and that customer knew enough to ask at the time. I did get floor mats and a MB charger that I think were pulled from yet another car. I have a slime roadside kit thrown in the boot.
