Hi everyone,

I just bought an 2013 ED3 Smart with a brand new batterypack installed.
No idea why the battery was broken but I'm happy with the new one!
We love to ride cabrio's. This is a coupe model. We still love it but....

I was wondering how difficult it is to swap the batterypack between these cars.
Maybe I come along a 451 cabriolet version with a broken batterypack for little money and then I could consider swapping them.....

The mechanical part of swapping over a pack is not that difficult.

BUT...You are dealing with a pack that weighs around 600 lbs and carries 300+volts!?!?!

I would suggest finding a local electric car club.

I know the club I belong to in the US has "tech sessions" where we work on members cars, doing upgrades and battery swaps.

For sure you would need to teach (software) the smart to accept the battery. The batter got the VIN of the car coded in, at least as far as I know.

If this is true, then car manufacturer's nonsense like this has go to go.
