Two points for better MPGs:Use the automated shift mode whenever possible (which it isn't always). I fought the car's program when I first started driving it (manual shifting, playing the accelerator after an upshift). Lotsa fun, but not so good mileage. The tranny will want to shift "too early" for my taste (I've traditionally driven in the higher end of available RPMs than my smart will if given its own way), but the CPU will not let you lug the engine.Try the constant throttle technique advocated by Rick Masters at 451s.com. Pick the accelerator position that maintains the speed you want, and then don't move your foot up or down. Slide your foot sideways and rest the edge of your sole against the center tunnel to hold it in place, Let your tranny find the gear it wants. Goosing the throttle every shift will eat up gas like crazy.
