about going to a larger oil filter when threads and seal are the same just a bigger canister (more filtration and slight increase in oil capacity).

what does the infinite wisdom of this counsel say?

There is information about the longer filters that people are using. I'm afraid I'm not sure how to find them.....

Fram 7317 / Purolator 14610 is a third longer, same base, same bypass pressure.

Hangs a little low, but I have never had a problem.

Oil changes use exactly 4 quarts, verses 3.7 for the Fram 6607 / Purolator 14612....

When I had my '08 & '09 smarts I used a Bosch filter larger than the stock size with no problems, can't say that now that I have 2 '16 smarts, kind of limited since they use a cartridge insert.

This last oil change I switched to the Wix 57356 filter. It is another longer filter than stock.

I used the larger Bosch size filter. Also the Mobil 1 filter too. Had to buy a different oil filter removel cap. The cap size, is a little different, from the OEM.

Larger in diameter? Do you think the oil flows properly in and out of it? I'm assuming it is not leaking....

Oil pressure seems normal, no unhappy lifter sounds, so I assume the flow is good. No leaks, but the seal diameter was just small enough to mate with the sealing surface.
