I love days like this. When I got into my fully-charged smart car this morning, the temperature was in the forties. I had an estimated 44 miles of range. During the day, the temperature climbed to 74°, and by the end, I had driven 39.9 miles and still had an estimated 28 miles of range on the car!

Yes, temperature sure does affect battery performance!

But remember, the range indication you see is based on a very imperfect calculation. If you go to the "reset" screen on your panel and reset it (using the odo reset button), the estimated range with a full pack will jump to at least 70 miles.

The best range estimate is the one you can do yourself with the SOC meter and trip odometer and some simple arithmetic in your head.

Those days are fun. A few days ago I got in and full charge estimated 54 miles. Got to work with 20 miles left on the estimate but 74% on the SOC. Took the 25 mile drive home and was still above 28%. I learned that the DTE means little. Time for round 2 of the same today.

I did reset it last night and sitting at 99% and 89 mile estimate in garage, but 37*F outside temp and windy.

Ah, the accuracy of the ED "digital display" and the guess-to-meter!

Still entertaining to "play" ED as a video game against the traffic/speed, range/elevation and temperature variables.

EvAccess says that I am beginning the day at 99%/69 miles, 58 degrees.

Every time I reset it with a fully charged battery, it says my estimate is 55 miles. Then after about 7 or 8 miles of driving it usually still says 55.
Then after another 10 miles of driving, it finally starts getting really accurate.

And that's the way I treat it -- as a video game.

The other day I found myself in unusually aggressive rush-hour traffic. Feeling unusually aggressive myself, I found myself "hole shotting" the other vehicles at stop lights, pretty much keeping up with traffic and being just another (albeit small) vehicle in the flow. I knew I was going to have a miserable ECO reading, but I didn't want to be a rolling traffic block, and it doesn't really affect my SOC% anyway, so what the heck...
