I am thinking of getting the new 2017 smart base model automatic. Getting a good deal is my primary concern since I'm getting this car mainly for budget reasons and also parking. What can you guys recommend that I do. Also is there any hidden problems or costs that are particular to smart that I should be concerned about?

Welcome to SCoA! The 2017s are in short supply as the gas powered smart will no longer be sold in the USA and Canada. Maybe a couple of dealers here can point you in the right direction, or try searching for new inventory on cars.com or similar sites. Once the 2017s are sold only the electric drives will be available as new sales and only at dealers that choose to carry them. :)

I would get in touch with Kamaal Peterson at Penske smart-West Covina. He should have a few Pure's in stock and he knows how to handle out of state sales. You can reach him at: [email protected] or call at 1(626) 430-3730 and make sure your ask to speak to him personally. He is the Brand Manager & also owns several smart cars.

For California, The Smart Center in Oxnard, CA had a few gas models left. The San Francisco Smart Center has about 30. San Jose CA had around 10 last I looked. If there are any major problems with the car, I haven't heard of any. I hear there are some GREAT deals on the 2016 model (which is identical to the 2017).
