One of my smarts (both are used..ahem pre-owned) needs a new muffler.
Does the 80k emission control warranty include the muffler or does it sort of stop at the cat converter?

I don't know jwight. I'm guessing since it's a sort of "consumable" like your water heater, it will eventually leak, it's not covered.
I've already bought a replacement complete with gasket. They FLOW Volkswagen people assure me that they will replace it for $110 (in writing). I also reprinted the eviloution article on removing the stock muffler. Gave it to them and they were quite grateful. (don't work on smarts much). We will see.

Emissions warranty varies by state. Muffler is not covered beyond base warranty. Go to mini electric cars and micro green cars. smart USA under owner's section and view the warranty document.

Not covered by emissions warranty but anyone with a tool box and an hour of patience can change the exhaust, $110 is fair.

What about oxgen sensors? Is that covered under california's emission defect 7/70k warranty? I have a 2008 fortwo passion that has a P0140 CEL error and did not pass the smog test yesterday :crying:? Would appreciate anyones feedback...
