I have a 2005 ForTwo Passion Cabrio; one of the U.S.G&K mods. Been looking around online for info without success. Can anyone point me to pictorials that instruct how to install a new pollen filter? The few I've seen are obviously for the wrong year/model. Even the guide that came with the new Mann filter is for another make and model of Smart. ?

Also, my air conditioning has stopped working YET AGAIN. My mechanic (the only one in the region...) isn't sure of what's really wrong; the last time I took it in he apparently fixed it by accident! Perhaps it's the compressor? I don't hear that on-and-off sound now that I hear when it's actually cooling—I've been told that's the compressor? The mechanic thought the coolant might have all leaked out and refilled it once, but that wasn't the issue either.

Some are able to change the filter through the access hole on the passenger side. I always took the nose off.

The A/C in the 450s is crap. They leak and parts prematurely fail. I have wondered if it might be possible to upgrade to parts from a 451.

Tried to look for the filter through that access hole, with a flashlight and flex mirror, but saw nothing. I had hoped I wouldn't have to take the entire front off... Maybe I'll just give up and have my mechanic do it.

Sorry to hear that 450s A/C typically sucks. I would have to depend on my mechanic for exploring the possibility of upgrading to 451 parts, but chances aren't good. I've actually had to teach HIM how to do a few things, and I have to source most parts from Canada and Germany myself—I'm in Los Angeles. *sigh*

RE: Mann Filter

Sometimes the instructions are for a different car but the filter is still the correct part.

Looks like the fresh air intake, which the filter attaches to, is a combo part that is also the windshield washer fluid reservoir as well:
