Hello,
I had this same problem back in 2015 and you guys helped. I have a deeper question this time. The fan got so it was not starting unless I kicked the fan motor under the dash (physically kicked it) so I pulled the motor this morning and cleaned all the black off the the armature (I think that is the right part) where the brushes touch. I hooked it to my drill motor to turn the motor and held a piece of sandpaper to the armature like I did in 2015. The used my CO2 bottle and blew all the dust out and oiled the bearing on the back of the motor. I put it back in the car and it is still intermittent and seems to be running slower then normal. What should I check next? Do I need a new motor, will running it for awhile get it all wore back in to work like it should or do you have any other suggestions?

Sounds like the bearings are not doing their job. They can get dust and dirt in them and not turn too good. Best bet is to replace it. It also could be the electrical connection to the motor, sometimes they get bent and don't make good contact, but I would guess on the bearings.

Used ones come up on Ebay sometimes.

Sounds like you need to replace the brushes. When the brushes wear down enough they will intermittently make contact and cause the symptoms you are experiencing. You can find them on ebay for a reasonable price (much cheaper than a new motor).

UPDATE MY SOLUTION!

Solution below was a fail. I ended up removing the adjuster as is failed within a day of installing it. When it came out I figured since it was a dead power lead to the motor why not just directly wire the motor from the power I was using to the fan switch from the lighter power in the first place. well I wired the power from that to the motor and returned the blue to the original blue from the car and boom. Ass has been well for 10 days I have been using the AC. All seems to be remedied.

So Don't do the following:

Ordered a fan switch and wired it directly to the fan, all is well and I actually have way more control of the blower speeds not. Went from having only 4 original settings to a endless speeds.

Bought one of these, wired it directly to the fan, powered it from the splicing into the lighter power lines.

Placed the dial in the space where the lighter used to be. Now I adjust the fan speed from the dial. All other settings function as they should. A/C blows nicely as does the heat.

I could have spent 100's trying to resolve the issue. Went with the 8 dollar fix.

Well it is fixed. I had the motor out 3 times and cleaned everything and it was running but fluctuating in speed. And then the last time I put it back in and was going down the road there was a big crunch and lots of noise. Two of the fins were gone from the fan. So I put in a used unit and everything is nice and quiet now. Thanks for the suggestions.
