It’s nice today. Lots of You Tube videos
on maintaining and servicing. Compared to 14 years ago. The smart car isn’t really an exotic car?
Very simple to maintain yourself.
Christian brothers automotive has been servicing all our cars for the last 7-8 years 4 star JD powers. I’ve never had any issues finding parts are getting service on our car.

Not an issues, finding parts or service.
It’s not an exotic car. Just a small car.
Know one here has ever been turned down For service. We just had our
Evap canister replace. By a Christian Brothers automotive. Cost just as much as a larger car.

Wrong, I’ve went to a shop (FS) and the head mechanic said that his guys never worked on the smart and it’s best to go to a Mercedes shop…I speaking from first hand that why now I do all my own maintenance myself 👍……Darn, you’re bring me off topic. Shame😆

I was a long time lurker. Looking for the right car to add to the collection. When I found it I started posting. This is my second smart here in America, first convertible. I've been posting a lot because that's how my ADHD works.

Even though I've owned smarts for years I just learned about the service rod bolts. Guess who is going to be ordering a set along with an instant rack! Knowing that I can drop the cradle in a matter of minutes is a huge game changer for me when it comes to servicing my own vehicle. It'll also make engine detailing a little more satisfying.

I haven't been here but a couple years, but I can say MY knowledge level on my 2008 has been nothing but a great learning experience, and nothing but helpful... and as a footnote, my new rubber baby buggy bumpers came in todays mail, and can't wait to put them on for what, from what I've read, going to be a great addition to ride quality. So thanks to all that have helped me on my great little car we call BOB..

The Smart is the 2nd "orphan" car I have owned, (not counting the Brits). The other was a Merkur Xr4ti. I also owned a 97 850 Volvo and 2005 Jeep Liberty CDI (yes a diesel and only 10 thousand made) that might as well have been orphans. I have seen a kind of evolution of the owner forums over time, so here is my theory. Lots of views, posts, and members when the car is new/still in production. As a make/model ages or goes out of production the numbers tend to fall off for a time as many people don't want the potential problems and risk of driving an older vehicle. These folks are probably still car enthusiasts, but are now focused on a different/newer car. The new car owners/enthusiasts are gradually replaced by the DIYers and people who are besotted (myself included) with that model. I Think the posters and viewers are increasingly concerned with how to maintain and source parts for the ageing vehicles and the technical aspects of repair as fewer shops are willing to work on orphans. Possibly the orphans still on the road migrate increasingly to owners willing to face the challenge of maintaining an older, out of production vehicle, so the numbers go up again.
