Has anyone had the following? We have had the same issue with both of our 2008 and 2011 Smart Fortwo; when flat towing one or both locks disengage and the hood slips out, dangles and is held on only by the nylon retaining strap. Luck was on our side and the hood wasn't damaged, but the locks were damaged. We are now looking for a body shop to make the repairs in the Gilbert, AZ area. Anyone in the Gilbert/Phoenix area can recommend a body shop with Smart Car experience?

Bob, I have changed the locks myself. Each lock is basically a two-piece contraption that swivels left and right on its axis. You will probably need a pair of long nose pliers for the job. You can source them on ebay or even Amazon, I am pretty sure.

Update on hood issue: found an autobody shop that works on Smart Cars; MBZ dealer in Gilbert recommended Autobahn Collision in Gilbert, AZ and am very pleased with cost and service. They found a new hood but they will have to color match (Yellow) as only three colors are available in US..white, black and I believe gray. Price for new hood, color match and install with new hardware is lower than anticipated so am a happy Smart Car owner.
