The car should start even if the fob battery is dead. I recently discovered that my 2008's fob has a dead battery but the car started and drove just fine. I just couldn't lock the doors with the fob.

And as you indicated, the fob battery isn't dead, so that shouldn't be an issue.

When you reattached the key's chip, was it put back in the same place? I wonder if the car is having trouble "seeing" the chip.

Another thing to try is putting the key into the ignition then hitting the unlock button on the fob. It seems that these cars lose sync with the keys after sitting for a long while, and that puts them back. That shouldn't have happened here since your car is still in regular operation, but it's an easy test.
