I lost my one key and now they tell me that I have to buy a 1400 new computer in order for the new key to work. I'm I being hosed? Also,the dealer kept saying that it happens sometimes the people from smart tell me it's every time. Any advice besides,don't lose your key. we were going to get a new one but they said it was 200. but that was a lie. seems this car is like a needy women every time we turn around ugh love her but I think it's time to break up

In the beginning....that was the case - no keys = new SAM. Now, smart can use your VIN and send the info to your dealer to reprogram new keys: http://www.smartcarofamerica.com/forums/f353/best-option-when-all-keys-lost-102898/ Your smart dealer should know that.
You also have the option of buying new keys and sending them and the SAM off to SOS Diagnostics for reprogramming.
