LoL...step by step?
..better off putting LED strip with the double sided tape. less work
but basically this is what we did Jack (Jack's Auto Body & Paint - Tujunga, Ca) and I.
1- took the cover off
2- Cut the cover to fit it in
3- Grinded excess plastic on the actual side view mirror - to fit the housing
4- riveted from behind
5- Masked it and painted it

sounds simple? loool it's not.

Thanks SmartDevl, for the info. I imagine that there is so much plastic in cars these days that it is probably necessary to extend both the positive and ground.

I remember those days when all you needed was the positive and then you would just need to connect the negative to anything metal (like the fender or door). A Brown Wire was always used for the ground.

I had an idea like that a long time ago! (I even posted it here in my own thread, I think) It's about time somebody did that!

Back in the early '80s I changed the fenders on my '68 VW bug to fiberglas flares. I kept the OEM taillights and wiring but the lighting went haywire. I went on a cruise (usn) and put my bug in a VW shop to try to figure out the problem. After a couple of weeks I returned to find that even the shop couldn't fix the wiring. I got my car back, no charge, and had it fixed half an hour after I got home. Yeah, at sea I figured what I did wrong and fixed it with 2 lengths of wire and 4 terminal ends.
