Left turn signal not working
Left brake light not working

Running light works

I have done the following,

  • checked the left bulb and didnt appear to be burned out
  • swapped left and right bulbs to see if the issue follows when I put the original left bulb on the right side (it didnt)
  • checked #6 fuse, also didnt appear to be burned out
  • swapped #6 fuse with #7 and the issue did not follow
  • swapped relay A (left turn signal/stop lamp) with relay C (same part number) and still no fix
  • visually checked the ground next to the fuse box, nothing loose or any physical evidence of an issue
  • visually checked the wires going into the panel where the bulbs go, they looked normal but I only looked at what is physically in front of me. I did not rip and tear to follow the routing of the harness.

any ideas on what direction to take next?

Welcome to the forum!!!

Firstly, what year is your car? I want to make sure that you're posting in the right place.

Assuming that you're posting about a 451, make sure that the bulbs are dual filament and that the two contacts are in the correct position. One filament is for taillights, one is for brake/turn. If it's installed backwards your brake/turn will not work correctly.

I haven't changed rear bulbs in a 450 yet, but if those are dual filament too then the same applies.

Moved you to the 451 subforum. :)

So is the bulb installed correctly? Easy test: Turn on your parking lights and observe the brightness of the left tail and right tail. Is the left tail significantly brighter? If yes, then the bulb is installed backward. It needs to be spun around.

If no, then you likely have a wiring problem.

Been there recently with my Volkswagen. Installed two bulbs backward and the SUV kept bugging me saying that I have lights that were out. lol

I have seen this issue before on 451's. In all three cases, it was the bulb holder that was defective.

Hey are you talking about the panel/circuit board where the bulbs attach to and the connector attaches to as well? I am thinking of ordering one and seeing if this fixes the issue.

one filament on the bulb is for running light (works)
the other fillament is for brake & turn signal (doesnt work) on the same exact bulb which is the top bulb.

Yes, the circuit board that holds the bulbs. Top bulb socket is for the tail/stop double filament bulb and bottom bulb socket is for the single filament back-up light bulb. The center bulb socket is vacant on US spec. 451's.
