As I did

a closer inspection on the batteries I realized that the CR 2025 was just sitting in one of my other fob (I have 4) and as I checked I noticed I have a cr2016 in the others

I think I may be able to explain the difference as to why some are posting the different batteries.
Normally these cars’ key takes a 2016 battery but with a little modding of the housing you can fit a 2025 battery (yes it’s thicker but the lifespan is a lot longer)
Did it on both my smarts keys and couldn’t be happier with the battery performance.
I also agree on a new battery being a dud straight out of the pack(been there before many times)

True.
Only thing is I’ve only ever seen the low key battery flash sequence one time and only on my silver smart (haven’t seen it since but have had the key battery be low resulting in severely reduced range which would also trigger a code in the Sam) plus if it goes completely dead the car won’t start(ask me how I know)
