I don’t have an electric smart so I’m not familiar with this part, but I do have a shop manual. What circuit is it in? Do you have a part number? I might be able to look it up with a little more info.

Resetting after installing new parts is another challenge. Many parts communicate with the various modules in the car and a MB Star machine is required to reset and calibrate many faults.
