After two years of tesla driving, after giving up my 2013 smart ED

My wife's car died and is in need of heavy surgery

Looking into buying a used Smart ED.

I would have never let my first Smart ED get away except for the residual on the lease of 14k

Now that the prices are really low...Im watching daily

What i want to know...

The four areas that I did not like or should I say i wish I could have changed on my smart

Ride comfort, Bumpy.
Heat in car after in sitting in sun for awhile. Did not like the plexiglass panel, even when covered let too much heat in.
High end window tinting, which includes the Front Windshield?
Cabin Noise...soundproofing?

Has anybody upgraded their tires or Rims for a better more comfortable ride? Swapped out the front skinny rim to match the rear so You can Rotate tires?

I had done this on my old Gas Smart. Wanted to see if anybody tackled this on an electric.

Has anybody swapped out the plexiglass sunroof for carbon fiber solid roof panel or the 2011 solar roof?
I like the Rolls Royce and the stars in the roof panel. small tiny holes that emit light that looks like stars at night....

Soundproofed....anybody? anybody upgrade their stereo and add dynomat to any panels in car?

Just dont see any threads on upgrading any of these areas....

Thanks and looking forward to coming back

With everything on your wish list, are you sure smart would be the BEST or even a SMART choice? Some of the things you want to do aren't going to be achievable, others will be a poor compromise at best.

Remember you are talking about a car with a EV with 60-70 mile range at best.

Sometimes it is what it is. You can't turn a smart into a Tesla or even a Chevy Bolt.

To answer some of your questions...
the 453 ED has more soundproofing than the ICE version,
it can be ordered with a solid fabric covered roof,
the new chassis is much superior to the old,
I changed tires from the Continental Pro Contact TX
to Vredestein Quatrac 5 in the same size(s), These provide a
softer ride and also are four season certified.

Good questions!!!

Ride Quality: The 453 has a superior suspension. If you wish to stay with a 451, I’d recommend 185/60/15 tyres on 4 rear wheels (of really any type).

Heat: The 453 is much cooler even on super hot days. For the 451, window tinting works magic, you may not even need the windscreen done! I have tinting in my 453 as well. Even on a 90+ degree day it’s not that bad.

Sound: For 451 you can do dynamat (requires removing panels) and more weatherstripping in the doors, but that’s a rather huge mod. The 453 is quieter than the 451 provided you dump those loud stock tyres.

Wheels: 4 equal sized wheels can help with ride comfort and handling. Upgrading wheels on an ED isn’t different than ICE, have fun!

Roof: I haven’t seen anyone install the glass solar roof (that would be a cool fix for crazing though). The craziest roof mod I’ve seen was godfather installing a working sunroof into his roof.

Given the fact that Smart has a very short wheel base, bumpy ride will always be the dynamic of driving a smart, you just can't beat physics. ways to improve it? You could try soft spring, air suspension, or smaller rim with thicker tire wall tires. But Smart is much comfortable comparing to a sport car. Trust me.

Put a good quality tint on the plexiglass panel, windshield, and also windows. It will help with heat rejection and also make your car look good! I went with DUB IR ceramic tint, I used to love 3M crystalline, but now I fall in love with DUB, much better rejections.

Smart is a super light car, you can easily push in all of the panels by hand, because all exterior panels are made of plastics, there is not much soundproofing materials. I do see people put dynomat between trunk carpet (if you even call it a carpet) and engine bay as well as underneath floor mat and seats. Wort it? I personally don't think so, dynomat is heavy, and you are adding so much weight to the body, and you are looking for an ED? the fully charged ED only goes like what? less than 100 miles? With added weight, you will expect to see much worse result.

I am thinking about a 17 squared set up instead of factory staggered. But I am waiting for some better designed wheels coming out. So far I haven't seen anything I like yet. I know a factory can custom made any design wheels with Smart specs, but I am not in the rush to replace the factory Brabus wheels yet.

I wanted to do star roof, but my smart is a convertible, can't do it unfortunately. But I have done it in my other cars. Easy jobs to do, but extremely labor intensive! I have seen Smart coupe with alcantara roof upgrade with star lights surround the plexiglass panel, and it looks GREAT!

I have JBL package from the factory, but I upgraded the factory Harman amplifier to Focal amplifier, so far I like it better than Harman's. Maybe I will upgrade the door speakers and tweets in the future, but right now, they are not in my priority lists.
