Looking for a smart mechanic in Madison Wisconsin or this area. Could extend to Milwaukee but that's a bit of a haul. This is for general maintenance stuff and things like a rear axle gasket replacement. Any good mechanic can muddle through basic repairs but I'd like someone who likes and knows smart cars a bit. Our MB Dealer, Zimbrick Mercedes, will be doing repairs for a couple more years they told me recently. They are expensive but top notch. So, back to basics. If you know of someone other than a MB dealer please post their information for me and for all the South Central Wisconsin smart owners. Cheers!

Thanks for the referral smark. I have called these folks. Though they are very nice they don't necessarily work on smart Cars. She couldn't recall working on a smart recently. They have one mechanic that does their 'foreign work', but he has no specialized tools for smarts. I'm sure a competent mechanic can figure a lot out but learning on my car doesn't appeal to me. We mutually agreed it wouldn't be a good fit. We parted ways politely.

I still have a right rear axel seal to replace so will make some calls to other places in the area. There are a lot of foreign car specialists here, I was just hoping to find a smart enthusiast mechanic who doesn't work for the Madison MB dealer. Thanks for your time and I love this forum.

I guess not all Christian Brothers work on smarts. I guess like Mercedes-Benz, Christian Brothers has to have a mechanic who is fluent in "smart car."
I wonder if all Christian Brothers worked on smart cars or not.
You tried and we got an answer.
Keep us updated.
Thank you for posting.
Good Luck

No problem. I want to emphasize they were great to talk to and get an estimate from. Very professional. I wish they all worked on smarts because now I'm stuck with MB again. More calls first. I will share my findings here.

They are/were desired here. Sales brisk at first. I bought the second one available from the MB dealer back in the early days. They would be as popular if still available. Always a friendly wave when we see each other in traffic. Cheers...

That's all past tense. Sales figures prove after the first two years, smart sales fell off the cliff. Rising slightly for the 2012 update.

It comes down to sound business. Why train and buy equipment for a diminishing brand? And with fewer and fewer smarts every year...?
Exactly why the majority of Mercedes-Benz dealers don't service smart cars anymore. There isn't any upside or profits. When our M-B dealer lost their lone "smart" mechanic, that was it. They pulled their signage down and stopped servicing smarts. I don't know if they even accept part orders.
