Just received in today's mail a BMS (battery management software) update request from Mercedes Benz, for me to bring in the car to my "preferred" M/B dealer for a free repair. Anybody have this done yet, please lmk how it went. I will also post updates. See letter attached as jpg.

Vadsoom, no it won't fix the bricking issues. Unfortunately, this service campaign is for the 453 model, the bricking is with the 451 model only. :(
But this could be for a fix-it-before-it-breaks problem.

This is good to see. I am going to call about this next week. I had the warning a couple of weeks ago. Leaving the car 20 minutes reset it, but it was irritating.
I'm just finding out about the issue, got the Service notice letter over the weekend. What are the specifics regarding the Reset? I havn't got the waring yet but since my local dealer in the past has indicated they wont/don't work on electric Drive models I'm kinda out in the cold?

Small update to this topic. I dropped off the car at my local m/b dealership, and was called back on the phone later because they did not have a gasket to replace on the car. My choice was to leave the car there for the rest of this week or pick it up and reschedule. I picked it up yesterday and asked for further explanation.
I was told that the main gasket to the battery box needed replacing as part of the service campaign. Note there is no note of this in the letter I received from M/B USA. The past should be in tomorrow, once it arrives I will be called to set up a new appointment.

I took my Smart EV into Mercedes of North Houston on Monday. They called later to say that the battery pack has to be disconnected to do the software update. The gasket for the battery had to be ordered. They got it done today. Part is circumferential gasket, whatever that is. At least it was free. When is anything ever free at Mercedes-Benz?

Got my car back from M/B. Attached some of the paperwork. Note this service campaign effects "approx 2451 vehicles" Also, since 12 battery was disconnected, clocks needed resetting. Contrary to what they noted on mileage, my trip odometer showed 5 miles . Exterior was washed, and I bet somebody had some fun...:sneaky:

I had the service campaign done on my 2017 late last week. Never had any warning messages on the console in the prior 6 months of ownership, but upon charging the first time after the service visit, the car would only charge to 81% with the following error message displayed: "Charging Not Possible Visit Workshop". I attempted plugging in again at home with my L2 EVSE and no charge would initiate. I then attempted the L1 EVSE that came with the vehicle with no luck. After driving it to 25% I attempted to charge it again with the same error message and no ability to charge. It just went back to the dealer today. :cautious:

My 453 has now been at the dealer since Wednesday. The service advisor said they thought they had it fixed but then "all hell broke loose". He said they are no longer able to communicate with the car. They have put in a ticket to Mercedes to have engineers provide a solution. He says likely the computer and/or the battery will need replacing. At this point, I just want it running with no issues so I can find it another home.

I'd say it's the same thing as they did back in 2018. At least here in Germany they even used the same exact text in their letter.

A few now got it already and some, like myself, haven't got it yet. I assume they tried to fix this (see my Wiki) issue again. But they weren't successful. I've already had the first readers with the update, who still got the error. That's why I'm getting the update with the next service and why I didn't make an extra appointment for it. At least nothing is worth than before.
Here they already did the recall a few month ago.

Update on day 15: The dealer says "Mercedes just told us to order the cable from the charger port to the battery and replace that and see if it fixes the issue. Part should be here Monday and hopefully it fixes it and be ready by Tuesday or so next week." Hopefully it fixes it but I don't have high hopes. When I took it in for service initially, the SAM unit was dangling and I asked them to secure it. I'm thinking it may be the reason it's acting up. I've heard things about poor solder connections and humidity causing issues with them. Fingers crossed it's fixed early next week. 🤞

I assume they won't figure anyting out. They didn't the last 4 years and they for sure won't the next 4 years. Simply because it's caused by something from Renault and Renault is ignoring it since 2012 now... :(
