Hi,

2015 Smart Pure 12,000 miles.

I installed an MDC cruise control, and have had nothing but problems ever since. The cruise works fine, but now the gauge cluster flashes on and off. The traction control light also flashes at the same time, sometimes staying on indefinitely. If the blower fan is on, or the headlights, they loose power for a second. When it is doing this the fuse box is clicking also. It sounds like a relay clicking on and off. All of this has also lit up the CEL. I am getting the code U0140. I have tried everything, including uninstalling the cruise to no avail. My Smart had zero problems before the cruise install, so I'm at a dead end on what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Take the MDC unit out. It is obviously causing issues - see if you can find a previously owned Area51 cruise control. They are problem free.

I uninstalled the cruise as suggested elsewhere. I drove for a couple of days, and am still having the same problems. I guess I'll uninstall it again, and see what happens.

If it's still under warranty you might get a replacement. If not, it seems to be the problem and, IMHO, not worth the risk of damaging your car. Just my .02.

I've only had it a couple of weeks. I would assume it's still under warranty. I'll call Smart madness and see what they can do. Thank you for your replies!

I would love to have Factory Cruise Control. Most of my pleasure drives are a few hundred miles long, cruise would make those drives real comfortable.
But I'm not into add-on units. More problems crop up than with cars that come with factory units.

I think you'll find the Area51 cruise control, which isn't made anymore, to be trouble free. It was specifically engineered for the 451 smart and works as advertised. Very hard to find at this point.
