A dream NYC Smart Drive. Spring 2019. A 3am lap around Manhattan. A stop for breakfast in Tarrytown NY then a cruise up the Hudson to Bear Mountain State Park.

Thoughts.......

Neat idea , ran it past the wife and she made the “ isn’t that dangerous” look
The Current climate of New York makes the traffic more of a danger than a criminal type of event. But it is a perfectly valid concern. This would be a full drive through with no intended stop for photos. Some local friends would be posted in strategic spots to capture photos of the group passing by. The reason for the time is simply that vehicle traffic is to heavy stop and go bumper most other times. Tarrytown has no relative crime of concern. The route itself runs past most iconic NYC spots and the night time lights of the city are always a sight to see.

Remember the context of the event. Smart car events are about the driving as much as anything else. When at an event and some one says they would come to NYC, it would not include a drive around the city in the day time as it is just to congested in general and for a follow along near impossible. 2am to 4am you can cruise through Manhattan with little traffic.

I will make this run over and over until it is solid and I memorize every man hole cover. I make the run from Manhattan up route 9 to Bear mountain state park regularly
It never grows old. All smiles and scenic. There is a 3 mile twisty stretch just before crossing the Bear Mountain Bridge that is a sports cars dream. ... Fantastic.

..... Back to focus lol. An idea to have a pretty spring Manhattan Smart Cruise under the lights is what this is.

The wife and I will be spending a Night at that Tarrytown Estate in a couple of weeks mainly to make sure My Smart is happy with its parking lot.

As I drove the route from 42nd st up Madison ave I can see the route must be driven reverse to what I had initially thought. Going the reverse route always keeps the city lights in front of you, as going north on the Westside Highway always keeps the George Washington Bridge as a growing focal point. Where going north on Madison ave it gets less and less city lights So reversing and going south or down town on 5th ave keeps the city lights in front of you all the way around the loop of Manhattan.

An incredible journey. I agree that those North/South routes near the Hudson are perfection. Bear Mountain is a treasure and Manhattan at 3AM is totally safe...inside a Smart ForTwo.
The target date is the 3rd or 4th weekend of May. Reasoning, weather no chance of snow our ice. Temps are also expected to be nice. Suggested area to stay is Tarrytown. Reasoning more hotel/motel parking convenience. One loop around Manhattan starting 230am - 330am Reasoning, very light traffic will let us tour under the city lights physically passing many NYC iconic landmarks and make our exit as the city begins to fully wake up. Back in Tarrytown area by 630 am for breakfast and freshening up. Then 10am departure up to New York's Bear Mountain State Park. Its a straightforward ride from Bear Mountain State Park to Tarrytown so Bear Mountain departure can be group or individual with a 6pm Tarrytown Diner location. A send off breakfast the next morning and the Midnight in Manhattan Bear Mountain tour would be complete. .......
........That is what is in my minds eye the intention is to make it happen. All feed back and suggestions will be appreciated.

Might want to include a couple of stops for bathroom breaks and or coffee, as well as photos along the way - Manhattan at night should make for impressive photos. :)
I will re run this course this weekend in full and give expected times. NYC is not very restroom friendly for drivers as it is a mass transit city. So from Tarrytown to Manhattan back to Tarrytown (32 miles each way) restrooms would be a challenge.

Breakfast and rest back in Tarrytown.

Then the Tarrytown ride to Bear Mountian State Park (30 miles each way) would be much easier to schedule some rest stops.

thanks for your input I hadn't thought about rest stops.

You could PM member "twcom". He is organizing the event.
I sent him a PM. This is a focused but fluid idea of something intended, all thoughts and input will be appreciated. With in the next 3 months details will become more solid and confirmed.

On that note the proposed event Tee Shirt design;
