I expect we will hear something in the coming weeks, not months.
Given that it's already been almost a year what makes you think that? If you have other information please share.

I don't think MB has any intention to start providing service again in MN. It's not worth it to them especially since there are getting to be fewer and fewer people who still are under covered under their warranty here.

The added fact that Smart now has a lot more competition with the Fiat 500, and the Scion iQ now on the market is just another blow to these cute little cars.

If you are interested in the latest news about a service point in Minnesota, you might want to call the service department in Madison. They might have some updated news to share.

Hi Two Smarts,
When I first read your post I assumed that official word would come out from MB. Now it has been too long and my curiosity is getting the best of me. Do tell what you know!

Well...I spoke with the Madison Service Department last week and the word was that a service point agreement has been made with someone but the official announcement will be later becasue they need to get them up and runnign with tools etc.

No date was given as to when the announcement would be made. Please call them for any "official news".....

Looking forward to hearing who this will be. I called the one shop listed somewhere online that handles smarts (in the Uptown area) and they never called me back with quotes for the work I need done. And when i made a comment on Smart's facebook page, they immediately reached out to me publically looking for my contact info. I private messaged them my cell and email... NOTHIN'....

I had my 2008 into the M/B dealership in Bloomington and they said they couldn't access the transmission computer because they are no longer a dealership. Anyone else in Minnesota feeling a bit left out? I have the "no reverse" problem and can't get it fixed. Some day it will be a real problem.

I am sure it is no help, but I had to drive my 2009 to Madison for extended warranty service. They were super to work with, but told me it would need to stay there for three weeks. That is your only option since August of last year. Before that, it was Omaha. No clue why they can not get us service in a major metro area... Leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I tell those I see that MB is the worse experience to get any support and to be really careful about buying the car. They are losing so many potential buyer with the way the treat those who bought and trusted them...

".....It will be a matter of weeks, not months......" A line of BS given at the Dells Smart Rally by the MB/Smart USA rep on 6/12/11, almost a year ago.

For what it's worth...

My coolant level was a little low. I stopped by Feldmann's MB to buy some. I told them I only needed a little bit... They said "Oh, heck... just pull into the shop, we'll top it off for you, no problem."

Well, heck! Ok! They were VERY nice to me. I asked if they would do work on the car, and they said "Sure... we even have a certified smart tech here.. he used to work at the smart center. The only thing we can't do is any electronic/computer/engine code diagnostics."

That's fine by me... I have a scanguageII which will tell me what an engine code means. But now, if I need something done, I know I have a place to get it done.

Makes me a heckuva lot less antsy about getting rid of it. I just need to find some spark plugs so I can change those out. I should have asked, but figured they'd be expensive there, if they even had 'em. I'll probably check with a Mitsu dealer.

Anyway... just in case any of you thought MB wouldn't touch a smart... that's not true. They'll be more than happy to charge $115 an hour... ;)
