Pennzoil Euro, Quaker State Euro, Shell Helix Euro, and Motormaster Euro are the same oil.

In fact, the additive package is the same for both the 0W-40 and 5W-40 versions,
the 0W-40 has more viscosity improvers...

Yes, I saw it there, but the last oil change I made was less than a year ago, and it wasn't the European. So I was wondering what happened to the regular stuff. I can buy it by the quart only in bulk, but I didn't want that much.

I'm going to take a stab at explaining what I understand.

Yes, for a long time Mobil kept the 0W-40 weight special to the European formula. They then changed formulation and added "FS" to the label. The specification met by this has been in existence since 2007, 229.5. It is a mid to high SAPS formulation as I understand.

Mobil ESP formulation is a low SAPS formulation designed more specifically for diesel cars with diesel particulate filter. The low SAPS helps protect this type of emission control device. Even diesel Mercedes without DPF, older generations, were prescribed to use 229.5, the category I noted above. For these diesel cars with DPF the specification is 229.51.

Please note that 229.51 is not a subset of 229.5. The lists of approved fluids for each are mutually exclusive as far as I know.

You can learn more about the fluid specifications on the bevo.mercedes-benz.com site if you wish.

Thanks, but I don't know what FS is, nor SAPS. So, should I use European in my engine or not. I always used the synthetic 0w-40w by Mobil 1 since I bought the car.

Along this train of thought. I have only used Mobil 1 M-108 oil filters since my car was new. I have noticed in the last couple of years all Mobil 1 filters marked M-108 are now branded Extended Use. I still change my oil with Mobil 1 0W-40 once a year even though the mileage is only a couple of hundred miles since last change.
Has anyone else noticed the markings change on the oil filters?

Sorry I cheesed out because I wasn't sure/forgot exactly what SAPS translated to. Needed to refresh my memory.

FS- just means Full Synthetic.

SAPS- Sulfated Ash, Phosphorus and Sulfur. This helps with longevity of the oil/why it can be run 10k miles before changing:

@1983JZR3W Yes, that M-108 changed to M-108A which is the 20k mi extended drain specification. I'm not sure if there was improvement made internally or not to be honest.

With that in mind I eventually moved on to the Fram Ultra line of filters whenever available. I did this based on reading the specifications on the literature/box. I interpreted the Fram Ultra as slightly better. (I still have a bunch of Mobil 1 filters for a car that I hoarded when they were on sale at Rock Auto).

I keep missing. Yes Mobil 1 0W-40 European Car Formula FS. It's on sale at Costco $27.84 for a 6 qt when I went this afternoon.

I used to buy the individual quarts of Mobil 1 until I found I could use synthetic in my John Deere yard tractor. Now I buy the 6 quart jug. Less than 4 for the smart and 2 for the JD. It works for me as I change them both once a year.
