Because of the heat here in the Mojave desert.I have been using the Pennzoil 0W-40
Yes, I saw it there, but the last oil change I made was less than a year ago, and it wasn't the European. So I was wondering what happened to the regular stuff. I can buy it by the quart only in bulk, but I didn't want that much.I’ve only heard of Mobil 1 0w -40 w European blend. i buy mine at Walmart.

Walmart sells it by the quart too!Yes, I saw it there, but the last oil change I made was less than a year ago, and it wasn't the European. So I was wondering what happened to the regular stuff. I can buy it by the quart only in bulk, but I didn't want that much.
I was just there at Walmart and I couldn't find it nor could one of the mechanics, who happened to be looking for something else. Maybe online.Walmart sells it by the quart too!
I'm going to take a stab at explaining what I understand.Yes, I saw it there, but the last oil change I made was less than a year ago, and it wasn't the European. So I was wondering what happened to the regular stuff. I can buy it by the quart only in bulk, but I didn't want that much.
Thanks, but I don't know what FS is, nor SAPS. So, should I use European in my engine or not. I always used the synthetic 0w-40w by Mobil 1 since I bought the car.I'm going to take a stab at explaining what I understand.
Yes, for a long time Mobil kept the 0W-40 weight special to the European formula. They then changed formulation and added "FS" to the label. The specification met by this has been in existence since 2007, 229.5. It is a mid to high SAPS formulation as I understand.
Mobil ESP formulation is a low SAPS formulation designed more specifically for diesel cars with diesel particulate filter. The low SAPS helps protect this type of emission control device. Even diesel Mercedes without DPF, older generations, were prescribed to use 229.5, the category I noted above. For these diesel cars with DPF the specification is 229.51.
Please note that 229.51 is not a subset of 229.5. The lists of approved fluids for each are mutually exclusive as far as I know.
You can learn more about the fluid specifications on the bevo.mercedes-benz.com site if you wish.

Sorry I cheesed out because I wasn't sure/forgot exactly what SAPS translated to. Needed to refresh my memory. Thanks, but I don't know what FS is, nor SAPS. So, should I use European in my engine or not. I always used the synthetic 0w-40w by Mobil 1 since I bought the car.
Never really thought of it that way, and I knew smarts had a mitsubishi engine.I get a kick out of a Japanese Mitsubishi engine. Using a European Formula specified motor oil.
I used to buy the individual quarts of Mobil 1 until I found I could use synthetic in my John Deere yard tractor. Now I buy the 6 quart jug. Less than 4 for the smart and 2 for the JD. It works for me as I change them both once a year.I keep missing. Yes Mobil 1 0W-40 European Car Formula FS. It's on sale at Costco $27.84 for a 6 qt when I went this afternoon.
