Has anybody ever seen the so-called "Design 1", 12 spoke wheels for the model 451? I've attached photo I snipped from an accessory brochure. Note that these wheels are flat when compared to the standard 12 spoke "basket" wheels (what smart calls "Design 7") that are ubiquitous.

I have not seen the Design 1 wheels, but I rather like them. I'd like to buy a set if anybody knows where I might find them.

I've only seen those wheels sold in the EU. Just like the re-released roadster wheels, only way you're probably going to get them is by buying them and shipping them over. :(

And it is common for the US docs to advertise parts you cannot buy, can't tell you why though.

@Neonspinnazz : Can you recommend some snazzy wheels in the OEM sizes for a Model 451? I see the Genius, Team Dynamics, and Rial wheels all over the place. I'm rather enamored of the Design 1 (shown above), Design 9, and Design 10 wheels, but as you correctly pointed out, these appear to be sold only in Europe.

And what are the "re-released roadster wheels" to which you refer?

They seem narrow, at least the fronts. (But then again, you could buy all 4 rears). Here's the part numbers if that helps you find them:

Front: A 451 401 01 02 15x4.5 et 23.5 (H2 not sure what this means)
Rear: A 451 401 04 02 15x5.5 et 22 (H2 not sure what this means)

Never dealt with this company, but they seem available here in the US:

MB Parts USA | Genuine Mercedes Benz Parts and Accessories

Don't worry about the pics, they are the Design 1 wheels (R72).

When the original smart road tour was in my town in late 2007, all of the Passion models had that alloy wheel on them. I don't believe they ever showed up on a production vehicle when the 2008's started arriving at the dealerships.

Sometime before the 453 release, smart re-released these wheels for the 451:

They were super popular with the 452s (Roadster) back in the day. Sadly, the new ones never made it stateside, we ended up with these things instead for no explainable reason:

As for wheels, I recommend the Genius Darwins, they're TSWs that are pretty hardy and give the smart a sporty look. :)

Those roadster wheels are really sharp. I don't believe I've ever seen them in real life. Sweet! It seems like every 3rd non-Car2Go smartie in town has the Genius Darwin wheels so I was hoping to find something more unique.

Thanks everybody! You've given me some great ideas!

That pic really doesn't do them justice though. I love my 3-spoke rims.
