I recently had my windshield replaced in my 2012 smart for two passion with (hockey puck) wiper sensor. I searched and found an old thread with similar problems and fuse #12 was blown. I changed fuse #12 and now the check engine light and traction control lights are on, but everything else is back to working properly. I am not sure what exactly caused the fuse to blow, but I sure do appreciate all the good advice others have shared here on the forum. I was going to add this post to the old thread, but it has been marked closed.

I'm stumped on how changing the windshield would cause any electrical issues or a CEL....
I had been using this car daily back and forth to work. I dropped the car off, and everything was working fine. The new windshield was installed, and I picked up the car the very next day and as soon as I got in and started it up I noticed several things were not working properly. I guessed that maybe the installer had somehow damaged the rain sensor and caused the fuse to blow. At least it is back to working properly, except for the traction control and engine lights that are now illuminated.

I would clear the codes and see if they return. All the systems on the Fortwo are intertwined on the Can bus so occasionally a glitch does happen and can be unexplainable. Fuse 12 covers the following components: Switches strip, on-board diagnostics socket, turn signal lamps, transmission control unit, exterior lamp switch, anti-theft warning system, rain-light sensor, auxiliary instruments, central locking system, instrument cluster, exterior rear view mirror heating. So he must have shorted your rain light sensor when he removed the windshield. I think I would check the wires to be sure he didn't damage or cut the insulation on them. The Fortwo is a horse of a different color to most techs. They don't have a clue and unfortunately sometimes we don't either. Just chock it up to "Smart Gremlins". DCO
