So I'm trying to use the My Smart app. I don't have the VVC code. My Smart Center is a Mercedes dealership that also works on Smarts. When I asked my guy about the VVC over the phone, he didn't seem to know what I was talking about. Am I using the wrong term when I say VVC?

They don't sell the ED so you are lucky if they know anything about your car. :)
If they took it in for repair, they must be ED trained/qualified? AND, if they sell the B-Class Electric Drive - same VVC # and process of contacting Germany etc. . . .

Now, try to get someone working under that $ilver $tar to do some non-revenue work for a lowly smart ED owner who bought it elsewhere - probably not happening.

So that's not something I'm supposed to have as an owner regardless of where I got it?

Depends on who you talk to, generally speaking this becomes a dead end upon resale or with the second owner especially if the transaction was not consumated with a smart Center.

It is not a simple process and few CARE to be trained on how to do it. Thus, since there is no NEW MONEY in their efforts the M-B employee will likely look at you just like they look at your smart - the ugly step child born under the $ilver $tar.

Just got off the phone with my son. He just got his VVC code and he bought his car almost four months ago. The code came from the selling dealer.

@emailchrishall: This might be a long-shot, but when I picked up my car they gave me an 8.5" x 11" piece of paper with the VVC code on it. Have you dug around in the glovebox and in the pouch with the owner's manuals to see if it might be stuck in there somewhere?

I didn't get a whole lot with mine. Bought it used.

The vehicle homepage is not an app, it is a web page. I use my smart VH from a desktop PC. I had to install a Chrome-compatible browser (Comodo) to make it work, though. I use it for the Smart VH and nothing else. Provide the dealer contact person with the VH's url so he or she knows what you mean.

My understanding is that it is provided free for 3 years, and after that there is a fee - but they never set up a way to collect the fee even if the owner want's to pay it.

I was just told that my vvc expired on December 1st, 2016. There are no indications that the vvc code is supported any longer for my vehicle & was told it was only available for 3 years from the date of original purchase, but it might come back- maybe..
Oh well, so ends my search on this..
btw after battery update Im getting more like 70+ miles a charge Yeah!

I think there was a recall recently and they did the battery recall/firmware update to fix it. There is a topic on here
http://www.smartcarofamerica.com/forums/f170/battery-software-recall-122770/

It improved the estimating of miles remaining on charge. I seem to now have a more reliable 70-75 miles to full charge now instead of 55-65. My 2013 only had 7k miles on it so it was hardly used by the prior owner. I did put it in for service, the 10k service was done 2 years ago,(@3,ooo mi ) I had the dealer do the battery descant filter again and do another 10k type of service just to start out fresh.

a little bit of both I'd say, after a full charge it reads mid-high 60's vs just 62 or 63, but as I drive and I look at mi driven and remaining mi and do the math it seems to now reflects a total range of low to high 70's. I know it's just a range predictor algorithm based on driving behavior, so did they just re calibrate the algorithm or did they improve battery efficiency in some way?

I do defer to the SOC gauge as being the more important gauge to follow....

Little update... when I clear both the trip odometer and then the history, ( hours , miles driven page ) I get total range available after a full charge in the 80-90 mi range. but if I forget to clear both, and just do the trip odometer then it is back down to 60's to low 70's range. Do I trust the 80-90 reading, not so much.

Are you saying you're actually getting more measured miles per charge now than before the software update or just that the "remaining miles" gauge on the dash reports more miles after a full charge?
Both, to a plus factor of 5 - 8%.

The software update appears to have been to the algorithm (seems to have marginally reduced the impact of switched accessories and hwy speed?) and had nothing to do with the HV battery pack OS.

Not worth a special trip to your friendly smart Center unless you are within "range."
