Just an fyi, but I am no longer affiliated w/ smart or MB. Perhaps a return to MB will be in my future, but after 13 years with 2 weeks as my longest vacation time off---I have decided to take a few months off to rejuvenate and figure out the next steps. I am embracing spending the next few months traveling, and enjoying friends, family, and the outdoors recreational environment mother nature offers to mankind.

My phone has been ringing and I've been receiving texts from folks who randomly visited my old store and discovered they're telling people I'm "on vacation." I'm not. I'm gone permanently unless some sort of magic happens. In any case, if anybody needs any assistance and isn't being steered in the proper direction you can always send me a private message.

As for the time being, I am going to intentionally enjoy a couple to a few months of doing things I was unable to do after working 6 days per week for 10 years...

Vacation! Vacation! Vacation!!! <img src="http://smartcarofamerica.com/forums/images/SmartCarOfAmerica/smilies/tango_face_grin.png" border="0" alt="" title="Big Grin" class="inlineimg" />

My reason for leaving was that our store was sold to a new ownership group and I didn't have it in me to do all the digging to convince new management to support me on my plans for smart for the remainder of this year and beyond.

Hint. If anybody wants to lease a new smart electric car, GET ONE NOW. DO NOT WAIT. I can't say any more than that publicly.

Good for you - working full time is not all it's cracked up to be. Enjoy your well earned time off, including driving your smart, and keep in touch. :)

And thanks for the heads up on the EVs - my guess is smart is retreating from North America in the near future.....

Thanks for everything you've done for smart. Your dealership was one of the last holdouts of the old school Penske dealership experience and you were part of the magic. Safe travels and enjoy your time off the grind! :D

Hey, I too was a Smart Manager from 2013-2017 here in Oregon. At that time my Username was NWBRABUS. It was a good run, but the store decided after 2017 we were finished as a Smart dealership (still have parts & service). I am now on my 5th Lease. One for my Mom, one for my Daughter, A 2015 Brabus & a 2015 EV for myself . Then as you suggested, I rushed out to lease my 2018 EQ ASAP with every option Smart has. Including the 16" tires and wheels of the sport package. Just a blast to drive! ~ Michael NW453

Kamaal - enjoy that much deserved "vacation."

CONGRATULATION! The car business can be quite a grind and you my friend have paid your dues - time for some Kamaal time!!!

Thanks for being such a staunch supporter of the smart brand through thick and thin. Dunno for sure but I would think you (and perhaps smart Center West Covina?) were likely the most successful salesperson that smart USA had in their network?

Over the years I have bought many cars and every buying experience had it's own story - my smart ED purchase from you 2,500 miles away was likely the most seamless transaction ever and we have yet to meet face to face but I expect that may happen sooner rather than later???

As a fellow auto enthusiast please do keep us in the loop as to your next great adventure, who knows I might need whatever your new adult toy store is selling???

Thanks, I appreciate it. I want to stay in the car business, however I want to take a creative and different approach if it is at all possible. You have to evolve your service as technology and "the market" demands. Jumping back into the exact same role only with a different hat or uniform might not be the ticket for me, however I did truly enjoy it. I need the time off so I'm not being too forceful with ideas, and a free mind that has been fully cleared of immediate stress will hopefully allow boredom to kick in so I can chase something I truly want to do... time will tell.

However, hopefully the vacation is over in June!

Kamaal thank you so much for your knowledge and help on this forum. You were Smart's number #1 supporter in so many ways. West Covina provided parts for me to keep Max running on the road and the transactions could not have been easier. I am so sad to see so many good friends leaving the forum and moving on. I fear for the future of my Fortwo to be able to keep it on the road. I have put so much extra money into it to add things that enhances it and I'm still at it today. You will accel at anything to try because you a dedicated and very intelligent. You will be missed my friend. DCO

I was told (off the records, of course) that 2019 is the last production year for Smart in the US. It's a shame, really, as I was hoping they would put the Smart4Four in the US before this happened. Personally, I find the move to all ED vehicles is a mistake, but that, again, is just my opinion. Especially when the closest Smart center to me is nearly 300 miles away.

My dealership is officially sold out of new smart cars and my time with the brand is now also over. I was asked to stay on at my dealership and work with the dealership's pre-owned department management, new MB sales, and to help with the future MB EQ-line.

I had an interesting 6.25 years with smart. I started with the brand at my dealership as smart launched the 451 EV, lived through that hype and then the cool-down, did the ColorMeRad events in MA and Maine that smartUSA sponsored, saw the 453 improvements in both gas then EV, went to plenty of local EV events to show off the cars(even though they didn't result in any additional sales), drove an electric smart up and down Mt. Washington Auto Road in New Hampshire, learned of the ICE cancellation, sat next to Annette Winkler at dinner in Las Vegas, tried out the smart Vision EQ, went to SXSW in Austin TX to see the smart car exhibits, heard of the EV cancellation earlier this year, and meet plenty of interesting people along the way. I had a lot of fun driving the cars to clients throughout New England (even when that meant stopping for 3 hours to recharge the car and grab lunch) and especially enjoyed the instant torque of the EV models and the looks the car got while flying past people on the road, especially convertibles. The vehicles did not get much respect from many people but I tried to convert as many people I could into believers. Changing over to Mercedes and eventually EQ without any of the uniqueness of the smart brand and the clients who loved it will be an interesting transition.

Au revoir.
