I need a diagnostic done on my 2008 Smart Car Passion. Plus the engine tray and latch for the tailgate. I live in Michigan and there are no listings for Mechanic Shops that work on Smart Car. Does anyone have any suggestions?
The tailgate latch is not too difficult to install either yourself or by anyone with a bit of mechanical experience. Not sure what the engine tray needs but there is not too much to it. Most codes can be read from the OBDII port and we can help you decipher them. Most auto parts stores will read the codes for free, they won't reset them but at least you will have a direction to go with the code number.
Welcome to SCoA! The Michigan smart center is in Ann Arbor. Another possibility is finding a local shop that works on Mercedes-Benz products and has a STAR computer - they should be able to handle computer related issues. Normal maintenance items can be done at any good auto shop.
I normally try to do my own work, but sometimes need some outside help.
I've not used the Ann Arbor dealership, but I have used both of the other places below. I was pretty happy with both of them. They both specialize in Euro cars and both came highly recommended.
Arbormotion - off State St, South of I94. (Changed the engine thermostat)
Orion Automotive - Off Jackson Ave. Near all of the Auto Malls. (Had SRS warning light. They changed driver's seat belt retractor)
New to Discussions. I have a 2008 twofour convertible smart car.
have a 2008 twofour convertible smart car. Does anyone know how to open tailgate door? The only way to get in the back of the smart car is by the the handle. If that is broken and you cant use a wire or screw drive to hit the electronic recess switch through the little hole. Their are no inside latches or the glass won't open with fob(doesn't have that option). I can't get in to maintain oil. Please help.
Can you get the glass hatch unlocked? The key fob should do that. Are you saying the mechanical latches on either side of the tailgate are not working?
Since it is a Convertible there are no inside latches. On the key fob there is no button to raise the convertible window soft top. The only way to get in is the hatchback is click 2x on open key fob and release the handle to the tailgate. Yes only 1 way to get in. And since my recess handle is broken I cant get in. Any suggestions
Peggy since you live in Michigan. I don’t know how close you are to a Christain Brothers Automotive. Their a honest automotive chain, select locations across the country. You might want to check them out, if you near one. We been taking our smart car to them here, for years. MB service was too $$$$$. They most likely can order the part. Fix your vehicle. The only other solution is a MB dealership.
Evilution has a detailed method to open the back on a cabriolet and shows quite detailed description of how to accomplish it. It shows for both the coupe and the Cabrio
