All,

I have checked several places and have had no luck finding a smart car for rent. My son is having his 16th birthday this Saturday night (the 3rd). He has been dropping hints all year that my car is just too "big" for him to drive (it's an altima..really?). What he is really saying is that he wants my husband's car (a mercedes... shocking, but its a 2002 and paid off). We have been threatening to get him a car with no backseat so his friends can't ride....so we're looking to play a joke on him and surprise him with the smart car. Would any of you be willing to loan us your precious vehicle for about an hour...we will pay $50 for your time and trouble. We live in Murabella near World Golf.... we would need it from around 7:00 to 8:00 pm, but we can adjust the time if needed. We will not be driving it unless you need us to pick it up.

Please reply to this thread if interested! Thanks!

So, go ahead and buy him a smart... You will kill two birds with one stone. It is engineered by Mercedes, after all. He can have a blast with it. It will carry most anything he needs to carry from an under counter tumble dryer to an ironing board with the passenger seat folded forward. If you splurge he can have a convertible, probably the safest one on the market with four roll bars, if you count the two in the seat backs. Someone rolled one onto a guard rail and only got a small cut on his head. The anti lock brakes allow one to steer out of an accident on wet pavemennt, been there, done that. The car tracks wonderfully well on the highway and is small enough to dodge things while staying in your lane, kinda like a bicycle. Top speed is limited to 93 mph. and yes there is no back seat. There still is plenty of room on the passenger side, so precautions must still be taken! :p Tall people fit! The designer was 6'7". Wrumbarger claims 6'8" if I remember correctly.
If he accepts it, he wins and most possibly will love it. Unless he HAS to have a Big Benz. :D

You may have a problem with your Son's age. MOST rental car companies won't allow a 16 year old to drive their cars. Only the high risk (expensive) rental companies typically rent to younger people)

I rented a Smart about 5 months ago from HERTZ, ($19.99 a day).
The problem that I had, was tracking one down. They don't have many here in Atlanta. I was told that they typically are at the airport Hertz location. I rented it for 5 days (long term test drive), and that helped me make up my mind that I had to own a smart ! Enterprise is also suppose to have them.

Good luck ! and Happy Birthday to your Son ! :spots::spots:

J Paul..... you are correct. I have called all the rental places in Jacksonville, we don't have them for rent.

All I need is someone to drive to my house, park in my driveway...we'll slap a bow on it, surprise my son and they can head out with their $50....but times running out! The party is tomorrow night!

Yes... I called them first. I was thinking of an "extended" test drive lol... the salesperson put me in touch with one person who could not do it. :(

The 3rd is also my wife's birthday, so I think we will stay in Lake City. BUT, first coast smarties are going to be in the parade in St Augustine on the 3rd. Check your pm for some contact info.
