I was at the Smart dealer in Columbus, O-H today and saw a 2013 Electric with LESS THAN 700 miles!! A guy bought it for $7900.00... at least he said he was going to buy it... I don't know for sure that he did....

Odd that the dash/listing read 632/640 miles yet the CarFax shows 3,942 miles on 12/18/15?

Yes, CarFax is not always true and accurate but . . .

You can get a brand, spanking new 2015 for less than that after the federal tax credit. Last I checked they had two left in the Cherry Hill, NJ dealership and they deliver too.

True, but most folk don't pay enough in federal taxes to take advantage of the tax credit.

IMHO, a better deal can be a 2015 ED with about 10K miles for two thousand less than this 2013. You even get some of the 4 year factory warranty with that.

Also true, but consider this - you will be getting a car with almost no miles with a full four years of warranty. Even if you can't take the full $7500 tax credit, you can take whatever portion of it that will take your tax obligation for the year down to zero and likely get you a REALLY nice refund in the spring. Choices, choices. :) Oh, and no BAP to worry about.

I somewhat recently replaced my totaled smart with an iQ, (thanks to insurance money). The CarFax was over by about 1000 miles.

In this case, maybe the one entering it accidentally added the "2" in 394"2". (At least that's what I hope happened...)
In my case my wife would pretty much pocket the tax credit.... (Hmm. Everybody's situation is different....) :D

Agreed, there are some great buys on low mileage lease returns out there especially now that the BAP halo is fading.

Matter of fact my MT15 ED will soon be part of that growing inventory as the residual and ongoing BAP make the buyout stupid.

Likely many who don't "pay enough" probably aren't shopping for new EV's as they may not have driveway/garage access to park and charge?

Don't confuse "pay" with that "owed" on April 15th.

While many folks may pay $0 taxes, for those who pay quarterly or through the year by payroll deduction the EV credits are an offset and the credit is payable to those who do pay.

It only serves to increase the "refund" that may or may not be due on the 15th.

Exactly, we are talking about tax liability - line 63 on the 1040 or line 39 on the 1040A. Not what is owed/refuned after the paycheck withholding. Most poeple shopping for an EV have above-median incomes with at least some of the income poking into the 25% bracket and pay at least $7500 in federal taxes. Then again, you have high-rent areas where people shell out half their income in deductible mortgage interest for the first few years on their house, so maybe not.

Yep.. I bought it. Couldn't resist it.

Been wanting an electric car for a while. Those 30k+ are just too much.
