Don't confuse "pay" with that "owed" on April 15th.
Exactly, we are talking about tax liability - line 63 on the 1040 or line 39 on the 1040A. Not what is owed/refuned after the paycheck withholding. Most poeple shopping for an EV have above-median incomes with at least some of the income poking into the 25% bracket and pay at least $7500 in federal taxes. Then again, you have high-rent areas where people shell out half their income in deductible mortgage interest for the first few years on their house, so maybe not.
