Love my 09 Smart. It is pretty well mint condition 55000 on it. New problem it has a bumping noise on the floor in front of the drivers seat and that makes the headlights flicker especially during shifting. I pulled the dust pan and still can not find this problem. Anybody here ever heard of this one? Dave.

Dave, can you get fault codes? The ABS pump is under the car opposite driver’s seat (you’ll have to take the belly pan off to access it) and does a self-test shorty after the car is started. More details would be helpful.

Hi, have you checked the battery is clamped down tight and terminal connections are all tight.
I know the battery is on the other side but might be worth having a look.

When shifting, are the headlights actually flickering or just briefly dimming? If they're just dimming, that's a known issue that dealerships resolved by putting in a bigger battery. Old or worn batteries will also make headlights dim during shifting. How old is your battery?

As for the noise, a video might help!
