hey everyone!

I just picked up my new 453 last night after totaling my second gen Smart last Tuesday. I totally love the updates and drive quality. I don't think I'll ever not have one of these cars.

I miss a few things like the heated seats and auto headlights. I also really need an arm rest and I'm curious which ones people are using? Id like to get one that matches the black fabric of the seats if there are any out there.

Again, super new to buying stuff for my Smarts, so apologies if this is an obvious question.

Is there a good trusted store I could pick up a factory one from? My MB dealership has stopped carrying parts so i think I'm left to shop online.
Anyone else find that interesting? Hmmm Parts may be made for 10 more years, but it could ba a real PITA to buy them.

Ive already noticed that 453 parts are more difficult to find over the older ones. I guess they were in production for much less time so not as many on the roads. Ive only seen one 453 on the roads around here.

The 453 ICE is still in production and will be until 2020, just no longer sold in U.S. and Canada. It is unfortunate that Mercedes will not allow non smart selling dealers to order parts. As I and others have stated here, Mercedes stands behind it’s cars for parts availability much longer than most other manufacturers. I can go to any Benz dealer and order parts for my 1990 and 1977 sedans. Put a complete exhaust system on my ‘77 a few years back. Parts not available in U.S. but were shipped from Germany at no additional shipping charge. Only allowing the few remaining smart centers to order/sell parts is a real bummer. Not customer friendly at all! Of course, we can order online.

OliverB, I read "Nichyneato" post and understood it as meaning as they sold smart parts at sometime but because they don't sell the car any longer, they discontinued handling parts.

That's what he wrote. 'They "MB" Stopped selling parts.' Maybe further clarification is needed.
I don't think you can base future "Smart" parts availability on your true Mercedes Benz parts availability That maybe a foolish assumption, I hope not, but unless you have a promise in writing or have seen one, I wouldn't count on ten years of parts availability.

Until I experience otherwise with my dealer I’ll stick to what I have found to be true up until now. Many folks don’t understand how to work within the system and where there is a vacuum something will fill it.

I believe that any former Smart dealer must service and sell parts. They will likely have to order parts maybe even routine service parts which could be a PIA. You may have to be firm in your interactions with the parts dept. Any Mercedes dealer that never sold Smarts cannot order Smart parts AFAIK.

Can you list any links to regulations, laws or even auto manufacture's written policy, that 'any former Smart ( or even american) dealer must service and sell parts'? I've not been able to find anything.
Automotive dealerships are Privately owned businesses, even MB dealers.that sometimes change ownership.
A smart center is different than a MB dealership that sold smarts. Could have been two separate businesses that operated under the same roof. If the "smart center" was structured as a separate business, within a MB dealership, paying sales space rent as a separate business, then I don't believe that MB dealer would have any obligation to smart owners whatsoever.
My 2009 will be 10 years old in a year. I bought it a year ago knowing it was a throwaway toy car. Any major repair and it goes to the junk yard.

No I can't Jo e. We had a discussion here months ago about this very issue. I thought that Mercedes directed their former Smart dealerships to do that. Maybe one of our dealer reps can provide more info.

I thought SmartCarDan explained that if a MB dealer doesn't have a license to do anything smart, the parts guys will not have access to purchase the smart ONLY parts. (I know the ED shares dessicant cartridge with the B class). Fortunately I could still see smart in the paid EPC that I have, could meaning I haven't opened my EPC account in a while.

Hopefully one is willing to deal with online part sources. There are a few very good ones out there, at least per my experience....

I would expect that dealers would want to sell smart parts, market mark up, profit, and such.....

I never disagreed with what SmartCarDan explained. Unless you can show where I did. I knew about the Non smart selling dealers, not being able to order parts since I owned my first smart in 2012.

What I was addressing was from this post below.

Evidenty, that dealership sold smarts or parts but no longer.
I guess not all MB dealerships see profits in ordering, buying, taking up storage room for such a low volume car. How many more will follow suit?
While buying online parts is an great option for those DYI's
Beware most derlers will not use customer supplied parts.
As I have said in numinous posts, not everyone has the skill, space, tools or desire to work on their cars. Add to that, some independent mechanics don't want to touch smarts (as has been posted) also those mechanics don't have a MB "star" computer.

My question is. How many more MB dealers will stop selling smart parts?
