Tidbits (I can read French only enough to be dangerous but better than nothing)

Wheelbase 2.49 m (98.0")
Length 3.59 m (141")
Turning circle 8.65 m (28.4 ft) this is very good
Trunk space 219 litres (7.7 cu ft)
Two different versions of the engine, non-turbo 70 hp and TCe (turbocharged) 90 hp.
Basic price will be around 11,000 euros. Don't be tempted to make a straight conversion to C$ or US$, it never works out right.

If it's 11,000 Eur, it would probably start at $16k-$18k in the US after the necessary emissions equipment and such gets installed. As a smart? Probably closer to $20k.

That is, if smart even decides to give us the forfour.

Picking up some more details!

The engine in the red car (Jalopnik article) is the non-turbo version. You can see the throttle body with the intake duct coming straight from the air filter housing at the left rear, and it has a simpler intake manifold with no reinforcing ribs.

The engine in the white car (VWvortex thread) is the turbo version. There is a lot more stuff going on, the intake manifold is covered with reinforcing ribs, and has the aforementioned coolant hoses going in and out of it (built-in intercooler).

The basic engine appears to be the same.

It would never sell here of for that price. Too many other cheaper 4 door models offered here.

It looks like the Twingo and Smart will be sharing many of the same components. I hope they, Renault and Nissan, pick up the service on Smart cars in the future.

Maybe, If we are lucky, all Smart service and repair will be done by your local Renault / Nissan dealer. They sure couldn't be worse than what we have now.

I'm sure the present MB "Stealers" would be more than happy to kick Smart, and their Riff- Raff owners, out of MB'S sacred, Big Buck, showrooms.

It could be win/win for all. :) A2Jack.

I just read this, note the hate for smart:

Power is provided by either a naturally aspirated, 70-horsepower, 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine or a turbocharged 900cc triple with 90 horsepower and 100 lb-ft, the latter of which sounds like quite a lot of fun in a lightweight small car. We're eager to check out what sort of dynamic wins this layout yields – we know it's going to be nimble, with a turning circle of just 8.65 meters (28.4 feet), a full meter less than rivals. Of course, the rear-engined, rear-wheel drive thing hasn't always produced sterling drive experiences – the Smart ForFour speaks loudly to this.

Autoblog apparently missed the memo on the previous forfour being a reworked Colt - front engine, front wheel drive.

PS - where's that new forfour reveal you promised us?

smart has already stated that they intend to take the brand slightly upmarket, so a direct comparison with cheaper 4 door models needn't have any more relevance than comparing an iPad to that $99 tablet you saw at Big Lots. ;-)

there may well be a market for a car that is small, unique and well thought out and costs a little bit more. not everyone buys a Nissan Versa when they can afford something more ... swank.
