Is there any interest in meeting on Saturday, July 5th at the Silver Diner in Reston, VA? I called them and they said they don't do car meets but I don't they would mind if 'invaded' them? I am also open to any other suggestions...

I just came across this:
5/18/2008 - 10/5/2008 (Every Sunday)
Silver Diner Cruise-In
Springfield, Virginia
Location: 6592 Spingfield Mall
Contact Phone/Email: 703 924 1701 / [email protected]
Website: Silver Diner
Details: Cruise on in with your Classic to our American Classic Silver Diner Cruise In. We will be hosting a weekly classic "Cruise-in" Begining May 18th (5pm-Dusk) and every Sunday after (Weather Permiting).

Also, there a restaurant in Falls Church that has old cars on Friday or/both Saturday nights.

I would travel anywhere in the general DC area no problem. Maybe further depending upon location, and day of the week.

I also have an old car and some of those Cruise-ins are limited to specific years. There is one in Fairfax that only wants cars that are 25 years old. So I don't know how the ones you mention would take to an invasion from us smart owners. Just a thought.

There's a weekly cruise-in at a diner here in Va. Beach on Saturdays. It's on Independence Blvd. I went this past week and had a great time. Only one old man made a negative comment about me being there. Asked me if mine was an old car. Everyone else loved my smart. After 2 hours I could barely talk. I had the front hood off, just like the big boys. :D Then I had to explain where the engine was. I may be there again on the 14th. I'd like to do the Springfield one if others of you are there. I'd have to leave early since I'd have over a 3 hour drive home. I'd like to see if we can do the 4 cars in one parking space that I saw posted here.

Yes, I do understand about the Cruise-in... Were you at Morvan Park this past Saturday?

I was just thinking about the car meets at a resturant where it isn't as organized.

Seems to me there that it is a few folks interested and spread across the Washington, DC region. I am not sure where the best time/place to meet? One thought I had would be right downtown DC like around the mall/Capital. The drawback is that this is tourist season. Still open to suggestions...

I have not been to that one. I usually only go a couple times a year. I wonder if you can meet at one of the parks in the area...such as Carderock in MD....that seems to host company picnics often. I am sure there are others like that too. Maybe one of the parks in DC allow permitted gatherings too. Just a thought.

The host of the Fairfax Cruise in provides hot dogs, bathroom facilities, and music. I wonder if a vendor or dealer might not want to host an event. You like the way I throw out all these ideas and do no work. I give you credit for trying to organize this.

All good ideas ** it is called brain storming and there are no bad ideas. I would tend to think to start small before it becomes an event like a Cruise-In.

A park is not a bad idea. I think some of the parks need some kind reservation or permit unless we just show up...

I still prefer a restaurant like the Silver Diner where they already have the food and music included.

I just popped into the Ohio thread about their 2nd meet and it looks like they are meeting at a smart center. It wasn't real clear to me about who was providing the food (smart or owners?). Also, they would have the tech talk to the owners if available.

I could shoot Lance at Tysons Corner an e-mail and see what they think about it. Any of the other locations in DC area would work for me.

Add me to da LIST

No offense but I'd rather tour/cruise Washington D.C. if we make this big enough with da Metro Area Smarties >5?. Might as well do it BIG plus I haven't toured around D.C. in my Smart yet. Last and most important can you picture da photos of OUR Nation's Capital Landmarks with all da Smarties. I truely think it's a must do cruise. dcrooks, since ur da man w/ da plan, I trust you that this can happen. I'm down for a July date, yeah.

There is a plan of sorts in the making.
The idea may materialize, but may fall through too.
Pictures of smarts in known locations. All across the country!
For DC, I suggested a group picture at the feet of the Lincoln Memorial, taken from the WWII, across the reflecting pool. Need clearance from the NPS, of course, and lots of work.
But the idea is brewing... ;)
More later, when warranted.

85MPG: I agree with the cruise and the more the merrier!

JPaul: I have a nice camera and would to get such shots of smarts in front of DC landmarks. Can we get it done on July 5th or the next weekend after that?

BTW, I sent TJ at Tysons smart center an e-mail about a meet there and have not heard from him yet. Will let you know what he says...

Maybe we could do both as a meeting place and then head on down to DC like the Rolling Thunder to the Wall? :)

dcrooks, thanks. The project I'm talking about is for the fall, or there about. July 5th weekend it definitely out of the question: the Mall is enclosed for security reasons, the reflecting pool is off limits for the fireworks!
What I had in mind is an early morning picture, to have the sun behind the camera and to be able to see Abe's statue.
More later.
Thanks for the suggestion. :)
