First consideration. Tell me what a non working turbo would initially mean. Would it run and drive just with out boost of turbo. What would turbo repair be like. Because it may need to be replaced is there and upgraded turbo.

its in my stated price range and is where I purchased mine from so I will try to see it next week. But any one looking, this may be a easy way into a 453. I would just Black out the roof beam in the area that would be removed if it was a cabrio and have that look all the time.

Wow, not good to hear of a turbo going so soon! Less than 10k 453s in the U.S. Not certain if a used turbo would be available but worth checking. Can’t help as to whether or not engine would still run just not boosted. Wonder if that would trigger limp home mode?

One would almost need to know why the turbo failed. Yes I believe it will throw a code. Is it still under warranty? Seems like if it was the car lot would have gotten it fixed maybe. Maybe the warranty is to the original owner, I don't know if it is transferrable to the new owner. Alibaba carries a variety of turbos but probably not anything close to the original. DCO

So in a 10 min search you can see the ability to find a New turbo for about 1/4 of the scary list price quoted. This makes me sure there is a fairly affordable fix. Not to mention finding a take off or decent used turbo for this 453. It makes me put this project (in my mind) doable for $8400 dollars
now I will go back and see if a fully working 2016 50k mile 453 is available under $9000 dollars to judge if the broken one is worth the trouble. It is other wise clean and pretty.

I do not know if this is critical in car turbos or not. I have owned several turbo diesel pick ups and class 8 road tractors. The rule of thumb for them was to give the turbo a few minutes to "cool down" and rpms to come down by letting the engine idle a few minutes before shutting it down. This kept good oil circulation in the turbo during this idle period. I have never owned a turbo gas car so I may be completely off in my thinking.

Someone might be able to provide better insight, but I believe modern turbos are much better at oil circulation and heat management than the turbos of yore. I recall that advice many years ago, but I think it's largely moot with newer technology. Unless it says something in the owner's manual, I think a cool down period would be unnecessary.

Well I didn't have to look far as the same dealer has two of these. So all the trouble with the broken would only save me 500 dollars on over the working one. (before any negotiating) So right now neither seems the super bargain of my cheap dreams but I can see having a 453 by next summer. Make it my Daily and pamper the Harlem Edition. Although as modern day classics the gas powered 453 will be the rarer of the two cars. hmmmmm
