All smart cars & a driver are invited.
"As per past foliage rides we're eating breakfast at the Front Royal, Va Cracker Barrel restaurant at 9AM on that Saturday and will leave at 10:30ish. Lunch will be at a BBQ spot we know of on rt 33 and then everyone is free to find their way home."
This year Art had a great thought for us folks in the south to start in the south and still meet at the BBQ spot. Southern folks would start at Exit 99 of I-64, Afton, VA. This would open it up to our friends in the Roanoke areas. Exit 94 at Waynesboro has a Crackle Barrel as a thought. Like our friends in the north, eat at 9AM, & leave at 10:30ish.
Someone help me with the past lunch eating times. Maybe 1 or 1:30?
Mother Nature will tell us in Aug-September when the peak is.
FYI. The lifetime Senior Pass for National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands will increase from $10 to $80 effective August 28, 2017.
Who is eligible for a Senior Pass? US citizens or permanent residents 62 years or older https://www.nps.gov/planyourvisit/senior-pass-changes.htm
History has shown us scheduled or meeting:
2016 on October 8th & 15th, 2015 on October 24th, 2014 on November 1st, 2013 on October 19th and 2012 on October 20th.
Mother Nature tells us when the key fall foliage dates are for the Skyline Drive area. "Logic would dictate" Saturday, October 14th or 21st, 2017 would be good dates this far out.
Things to also consider are: Hurricanes, droughts, heavy storms or flying saucer attacks which could effect when the peak season would be.
Short answer, "too late", let's start with October 14th and see what Mother Nature throws at us.
C U there.
We will be heading that way for a road trip . We will surly be keeping an eye out for other Smarts ! Our destination is elsewhere, but just the same .. if we see a group or solo Smarts , we will stop on the overlooks to take in the view and chit chat .
We will be heading south from Front Royal along Skyline , actually wanting to do a stay over in the Charlottesville area for sat eve .. we will keep an eye out ! Look for our silver/black Cabrio with PA plates .
Yes, hopefully I will meet you on the road.
The custom color for my smart is "light chestnut metal flake". Maybe a copper(ish) & black color. VA tag "SMRTENF".
Sorry we didn't see any Smarts on our travels on Skyline drive . From Front Royal to the Route 64 exit . But we did have great weather and views . We got to the gate at 11:30 AM .
Although we did have a Smart follow us in VA Beach the next morning
