Hi, it's been a few years since posted in here. Since then, my wife just picked up a 2016 Fortwo. I would like to get a good quality scanner for it for help with troubleshooting, and resetting that can read Smart Car specific codes. I'm on a small island up in Alaska, 800 miles from the nearest dealer. At $2000 a round trip just for the car, a good scanner would be handy. I found a couple online that say they work on the Fortwo but like to hear from some hands on experiences. Hopefully the same model can read 2008 Fortwo if I'm ever can get back workingnon my wife's old car. Thanx in advance

I recently used a foxwell nt630 on my 2013(451) to reset the airbag light. I don't see why it wouldn't work on 453. Seems like it's around 150 American pesos online so not too bad. I might get me one at some point. Not sure if it reads esp or abs codes though. I personally use a cheap Chinese Bluetooth OBD2 dongle. It stays plugged in at all times. I know it draws some current but it never got me stranded. It did save my car once when I lost some coolant somewhere somehow and the car started overheating. All I got was a check engine light and all I had to do is open torque on my phone and I saw it immediately. At about 4 bucks I think it's the cheapest insurance you can get.

Autel 906BT. Around $1100 new, little less used if you can find one. Haven't had to use it much on my 451 but it did program a new aftermarket remote key. I think a dealer gets $150 just for that.
I bought a ICarsoft MB I 980 V1.0. It works with all MB, Smart and Sprinter models including the 453 gas and electric (but not the electric drive train for the 451) - less than $100 from Ebay sellers.
I have a C reader CRP123. They are now down to about $149. It handles Smart Fortwo. It reads and resets all engine codes as well as the ABS and the SRS. At the garage where I work we use the Autel MK808 scanner and they are around $500 but it does way more than the CRP 123. It reads all the modules on the Fortwo but it will not program Smart keys. Both scanners do many other models as well. DCO
If you only need car scanning, troubleshooting and reset functions, I recommend foxwell NT530, this 169 dollars equipment will meet your needs.
With a trip to the dealer oosting $2,000. Instead of a scanner, why not buy an MB star system, just
like the stealership uses??..........................
