Hi,

after my oil pan broke while opening an over tightened oil drain plug, I just siphon my oil. On top of that, when draining, there is significantly more used oil left in the oil pan because the drain point is about 5mm above the bottom of the oil pan - see attached pictures.

Had a recent, very expensive experience with the ALUMINUM oil pan on our MY08 cabrio. R & R the pan sucked over a grand out of my Fixed Income Budget!

Dealer suggested that the ‘08 pans can be problematic…

My dealer Fletcher Jones imports suggested the whole smart line of cars was problematic.
They couldn't wait to stop selling and servicing smarts.

Just wondering actually how did the oil pan breAl…Was it a crack, bolt broke off or a shattered effect?
I Think it has to do with the fact, that the oil pan is made off aluminium die cast and the oil drain plug was over tightened. You can see clearly, that the threading is healthy but the walls are cracked out of stress.
