Does anyone know the oil drain plug torque?

I don't believe 48 ft/lbs. Thats probably why the pan is cracking. My sprinter is only 22 ft/lbs.

Up to you. Here's a tutorial on the oil change procedure, complete with a suggestion that may solve your pan cracking issue (unless the pan is too far gone): 451 Oil Change | Evilution

Replace it with a new copper crush washer. Torque the drain plug to that.

48 ft-lbs is way, way excessive. BMW motorcycles use a similar oil drain plug into an aluminum pan, and their spec is 30-35 ft-lbs torque.

…the copper washer of the plug is a “mirror” seal …not a crush washer..

Hi,

after my oil pan broke while opening an over tightened oil drain plug, I just siphon my oil. On top of that, when draining, there is significantly more used oil left in the oil pan because the drain point is about 5mm above the bottom of the oil pan - see attached pictures.

Had a recent, very expensive experience with the ALUMINUM oil pan on our MY08 cabrio. R & R the pan sucked over a grand out of my Fixed Income Budget!

Dealer suggested that the ‘08 pans can be problematic…

They couldn't wait to stop selling and servicing smarts.

I Think it has to do with the fact, that the oil pan is made off aluminium die cast and the oil drain plug was over tightened. You can see clearly, that the threading is healthy but the walls are cracked out of stress.

I think there was an update during the production period - my oil pan was anno 2007 the newer ones have a beefier surrounding around the thread
