Two people, packed with spare tire, mini ice chest, sodas, snacks and luggage for weekend - driving like we stole it: :burnout:

286 miles up the hill, 70% A/C & one Dragon run = 41.7 mpg.

325 miles, 80% A/C run to Lost Sea, return Dragon run and down the hill home = 40.7 mpg.

What's not to like? :) More SPM (Smiles Per Mile) - YMMV.

With 2175 Miles total trip, includes round trip from NJ to Fontana, two runs on the Dragon, a trip to Lost Sea and Bryon City a few times and other rides around the area with the A/C most of the time we managed to squeak out 40.3 mpg overall.......I'll take that.

Interesting side note.

The posts thus far suggest there are Road Warriors among us who are willing to "risk" a smart Road Trip of 700 - 2,000 miles and beyond . .

Attendees included a 450, some of those dreaded 2008 451's that get such bad press along with a newbie that was only a day or two old. Some have DIY owners while others depend on a mechanic or their smart Center. Most are personalized in some fashion with some modded and others bone-stock. Some travel with a spare others with just the standard issue fix-a-flat.

There have been no reports of engine or transmission failures and all appear to have made it home safely.

That includes Austin & his dad Joe from Orlando, FL who were within an hour or so of The Dragon only to be involved in a multi vehicle accident. While their smart was destroyed, it protected them well and they still made the event. We look forward to seeing them and their new smart at the next OTD.

IMHO, this lends credibility to just how reliable the vast majority of smarts are in spite of the misfortunes of a few owners.

Tom - have smart, will travel . . . :burnout:

Well, my lifetime average is stuck at 35 MPG, which is much lower than what a lot of smart owners report. I accept that is due to my sporty driving style, and the fact that the lion's share of my miles are in town, on short trips of 5 miles and less.

But, I don't have a turbo like you do. My best MPG figures have always been on the highway. Even cruising at 70-78 MPH, with the A/C on, getting over 40 MPG is pretty pleasing to me. I sure wasn't giving the car any breaks while in the vicinity of the Dragon, LOL.

I averaged 44.3 mpg for the trip in my "dreaded" 2008. Not bad for a fish!

I filled up at 217 miles on the trip meter and got 58.6 with ac on part of the time , i had the diesel 450. i think i could have got better mileage if the dragon was down hill both ways!
