There's a solenoid valve that controls the flow of gas fumes coming from your gas tank. It stores those vapors in a charcoal canister and then appropriately draws them into the engine to burn them. It's called a purge valve and it probably isn't opening to allow flow. It's located in the engine compartment on the passenger side. Here's a "not so great" picture to guide you.

I would suspect that this valve is the most likely thing to be causing your error code. DCO

FWIW, I have gotten that code often over the last 11 years. Usually clearing it and reseating the gas cap is all it takes. Once, years ago, I had to clean the gasket on the gas cap to get the code to stay away. Nowadays, it happens about 2 - 3 times a year.

Saturday when we were Uber-eat we could smell gas fumes so when I got home I checked the valve for broken wires/hose etc.....nothing found. So, I disconnected the battery for about 15 min while I checked the battery condition. Hooked it back up and 2 days without a check engine lite......time will tell.
