A few photos from the show, with the help of some very helpful smart France reps:

The cars at the show were all French spec so may not represent what other markets will get. The BRABUS is in the works but the French reps had no info on possible US sales. The DCT is not due in Europe until next year, along with the BRABUS, which would line up with the start of US sales in late 2015. :)

The KEY isn't ROUND anymore ? ? ?

It was bad enough that the wheels have 4 lugs ! ! !

Now, I'm really getting distressed. All the unique "SMART" things are going away?

Have you posted your impressions of the 453 somewhere yet?
No, thanks for the reminder. Overall,it's a smart - no doubt when you see it or when climbing inside. The Paris cars weren't powered up except for radio/navigation so all the systems and controls didn't operate, but the switch gear felt good and the quality of the seats and interior trim seemed fine to me. Didn't care much for the seat belt retaining strap in place of the rotating plastic clips on the 451, but we'll survive that. Not a big fan of the blue/white interior but the others looked OK to me. The little ledge to hold the gas cap on the filler door is gone, as is the coiled retaining cord but we'll get a passenger grab handle and sunglass holder as options (depending on US specs,of course.) Standard tire sizes are still 15 inches and staggered, although there appears to be one option with same size 16 inch wheels/tires all around. Some may have spotted the lack of an external radio antenna - the smart France rep says there is a flat "ribbon" antenna hidden in each door. Also, the hockey puck for the auto lights/wipers has been replaced by a sensor integrated into the back of the rear view mirror housing.

1. Looking like upgrading the "infortainment" system may be challenging?

2. Interesting belt loop, nothing that a little chewing gum and baling wire couldn't improve upon?

JW, thanks for sharing and pass the croissants . . .

So many questions left unanswered. How are... the seats? Raise/lower? Quality of seat fabric material? Tilt wheel operation? Cubbies? Speedo pod layout? New key location? Any armrest? Visibility in each direction? How does the wider cabin feel? What do the door sound like when they close? How about the insulation and seals? (Especially above the engine compartment.) How about the trunk space and configuration for loading? Sunvisor size? What comments did you hear from others? Will the look and feel of the 453 help US sales? How did the clutch and shifter feel? Any new pano roof details?

Don't make us BEG you for all the real smart-owner-relevant details! You went to Paris to bring us back information… give it up! ;)

Upgradeable fuel tank? Sounds even cheesier than an optional cupholder. It better just be that you can't have something else when you've got the bigger tank...

Maybe the pure (or whatever the base model is named) will have the smaller petrol tank, and the higher trims have the larger one...

The only thing I really found weird was the downgrade from projector headlamp housings to reflector housings.

There has to be always room for improvements, if smart releases the 453 with all the good stuff at once what is suppose to offer as "new" in the 2017 model year or the 453 Brabus?I think that`s why it when from projector to reflector lights...IMO.
